Question

Move folder from 1 ssd to another within LrC, 2 of 3 subfolders disappeared

Tried to move a folder (with 3 subfolders) from 1 ssd to another ssd within LrC. The parent folder and 1 of the subfolders moved to 2nd ssd, 2 other subfolders are gone, not on original ssd, not on 2nd ssd.  Any ideas?  MacBook Pro, Sequoia, LrC 15.0.1

People have been reporting this issue for a decade or more. Adobe claims to have fixed this a few years ago, but there are still occasional reports of this happening.

When you say "2 other subfolders are gone", do you mean not in the LrC catalog, or they are not on your SSDs as seen in Mac Finder, or both, or something else?

If this is similar to the reported problems of the past, you will need to restore a backup of your catalog file and backups of these folders, from before the disappearance.

From now on, moving photos from one disk to another should be done in your operating system (not within LrC) and then you will have to reconnect inside of LrC following these instructions: https://www.computer-darkroom.com/lr2_find_folder/find-folder.htm

Thanks for the quick response.  To clarify, I had a parent folder on external ssd, within that folder were 3 subolders.  Moved (click and drag) parent folder from original ssd to a different ssd within the Folder panel of LrC.  The parent folder and the first subfolder (with all its contents) moved to the 2nd ssd.  The other 2 subfolders (and their contents) do not appear on 2nd ssd.  The parent folder (and 3 subfolders and their contents) no longer appear on original ssd.
When I search for the photography date within LrC the images appear (probably smart previews?) but LrC wants me to locate the file.
These are not critclal files, I'll pull from backups.
Thanks for your help!

Hi @LesCo55372

Thank you for reaching out. I truly understand how stressful this situation can be, and I’m here to help you through it. Here are a few steps you can take to find the missing subfolders:

  • Check Missing Folders in LrC: In the Folders panel, look for any subfolders that have a ? icon. If you see one, right-click and choose Find Missing Folder.
  • Search your drives: Try using Finder to search for the names of the missing folders. Also, check the Trash on both SSDs to see if they ended up there.
  • Check the actual folders on both SSDs: Make sure the subfolders haven't been accidentally moved into another folder.
  • Check Missing Photos in LrC: Go to Library > Find All Missing Photos and see if the images show up there.

Let us know how it goes!

Regards,

Srishti

Tried all you suggested, no luck.  These are not critcal files, I'll pull from backups.
Another reply to my post indicated that this issue has been documented for many years. Is moving folders within the LrC Folder panel reliable?  Or, should I use my operating system and reconnect the images to LrC manually?
