Moving a Collection into Publish Services

Is there a way to move or copy a collection into Publish Collections? I thought I could drag and drop but this does not appear to be possible?

Starting with some images in a standard Collection, you can make a published smart folder inside your Publish service and give this the same name as your Collection. "Published (smart or otherwise) FOLDER" is confusing naming IMO, really you can have an equivalent of a standard collection or an equivalent of a smart collection inside the Catalog, either of which results in publishing TO an external folder. Different kinds of Publish setup may use further different terminology but the same idea is used.

The inclusion rules for this new published smart folder - or whatever else it is termed - can be simply: membership in the Collection that you already have the desired images inside - as screenshot below, where "Cullen 2012" is my Collection's name. Since this is a dynamic rule, as you update this standard Collection by adding or removing images - and of course, as you make editing changes to the photos themselves - the effect of all that is tracked inside the Publish service as well.

Well, that's a smart solution, thank you, Ricchard ! 🙂

I hope it's helpful - there are two restrictions that occur to me:

It only works for a standard Collection (which is what the OP asked about) since membership in one Smart Collection cannot be used in the inclusion rules for another Smart Collection. However, by making a Published Smart Folder which directly uses the same inclusion rules as an existing Smart Collection does, the same result will happen in both places.

Any custom sorting or stacking seen inside a starting (standard) Collection, would be cleared so far as the Published Smart Folder which refers to that.

couldn't you create a new publish service, then drag all the photos from the Collection to the new publish service?

Hi, dj_paige, image you have 15 collections with 500 fotos in total. What would it help to move the fotos to a new publishing service? Then you will have all 500 fotos unsorted in a new collection. Not very helpful, from my point of view.

It would be very helpful if one can move or copy the collection created in one publishing service to another/new publishing service.

The benefit of having a publish service is different than having a collection. So if you want the benefits of a publish service, you need to drag the photos into a publish service.

I don't really see a benefit here. Now you have two identical publishing services.

Hi freyasadka,

As of now it is not possible to move or copy a collection into publish collections using a built in option in Lightroom. I'd recommend you to request for a feature on our feedback community here: Lightroom Classic CC | Photoshop Family Customer Community so that our Engineering team can take a look at it.

Thanks,

Akash
