Moving Folders Between External and Internal Hard Drive

I am running Lightroom on MacBook Pro running the latest OS of Mojave. When I try to drag a folder containing images from an external drive to my internal drive, Lightroom wants to put the new folder into an existing folder as a sub-folder. I tried including my 'Picture' Folder in the Library, but I wasn't able to get that to work either. It seems if I didn't Import anything after pointing to that Folder, Lightroom just 'forgot' about it.

I've watched videos on how to do this, and from what I can see, I should just be able to select the folder and drag into my hard drive and voilá. But no luck.

I suspect it's operator error on my part, but I can't figure out what I may be doing wrong.

I appreciate any help.

Thanks,

David

You have to Create a Top Level folder on the drive.

Then you can drag the folder into that top level folder.

you can do that in LR by clicking the plus sign ( + ) to the right of the heading "Folders" then brows to the drive name and type ina name for the folder.

I would like to have my Picture folder in Finder be the Top Level folder on the drive. However, I am unable to do this. When I add the Folder, Pictures, it wants to do Import. If I Uncheck All, then the Folder does not get added.

Is there a way to do what I want to do, that is Add Pictures Folder as Top Level? If not, I'll simply add a Folder to pictures as my Top Level.

Thanks

What do you mean by When I add the folder, Pictures, it want to import. You don't ADD the pictures folder you CREATE a Folder, and it can be called picture, on the External drive.

Once you click the Add Folder item you get a File Manager dialog window ( this is from Windows and you will get a Finder window).

You browse, Navigate, to your external drive. Once it is highlighted you select New Folder or Create Folder. A text box will come up to type in a name (you can call it Pictures if you like or anything else you like).

The click Select Folder or OK or whatever button to create the new folder on the external drive and return you to the LR window.

Once all that is done you will see the External drive name listed and the folder name you just created in the LR Folders section of the left hand side panel of the LR window.

Then Drag the folders you want on that drive to the folder name you created on the external drive

This never brings up the Import dialog window.
