Trying to fix (Lightroom not responding), very laggy in general even accessing preferances  comes up with not responding for a few seconds.

Have had the following happen a couple of times in recent months, when optomising the catalogue to try and fix above issue, lightroom quits and then doesnt restart. From this point cant launch lightroom at all. Uninstalling lightroom is prevented by multiple lightroom processes running processes in task manager

Winows 10. Latest version of lightroom, will add specs when/if I get it running.

What happens if you restart your computer? Can you launch LrC? Can you re-install LrC? If you are going to re-install, please follow these instructions: https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-discussions/slow-to-launch-and-walk-between-photos/...

One cause of lagging is an out-of-date GPU driver, make sure you have the most current driver. Under-powered hardware is also a cause of lagging, and your NVIDIA Quadro RTX 4000 is over 5 years old (which is extremely old in the world of computers) and may not be powerful enough to run Lightroom Classic 13.2 smoothly. And yet another possible cause is a corrupted preference file, which you can fix: https://www.lightroomqueen.com/how-do-i-reset-lightrooms-preferences/

Went all the way back to Nvidia driver 472.84 and the lag has gone so far! So pretty sure its a GPU driver issue that was causing the lag. Would that effect the succesfull optimization of the catalogue?

@dj_paige  yes thanks. First thing I did was clean install of latest Nvidia driver, that had no effect on lag. After being unable to launch I did try restart after uninstalling, although I thought that died a death with XP. Think I did try restarting twice as per instructions in your first link but will be more methodical next time. Did try deleting preferances aswell, also deleted previews. .Think first time I had to load a back up of the catalogue to get it going.

Installing the 472 series Nvidia driver brought back near instant responsiveness, even with it having to rebuild the previews that I deleted so think the gpu is up to the task for a few more years and wont be buying a 40 series until the sort out the power connectors!

Have you considered resetting the preference file? This file can get corrupted leading to odd behavior. This file is not replaced upon uninstall/reinstall (or was not in the past).

See the following links, (read carefully):
