nearly impossible to import photos from NAS (local network)

I am using lightroom classic 14.3.1 right now and recently I want to rebuild my catalog so I created a new one and trying to import the photos from NAS (local network). For the first several thousand it was okay, but after that, the import seems impossible anymore. I break the job and trying to just sync one folder with several hundreds photos. Everytime it might work for the first several and then stucked (no matter whether i restart the application or restart the job or optimize the catalog, nothing helps). Does anybody know why and how to solve this?

I suggest you check the conection between your computer and the NAS. It might be breaking down.

Can you always see the NAS in your file manager (Finder in Mac or Windows File Explorer). Test some LARGE file transfers from the NAS to the computer outside Lightroom Classic as at test.

What is your purpose in "rebuilding" your catalog? If you just want to "tune it up", you can use the menu item "Optimize Catalog". If you want to pare it down, you can do that by deleting files or folders you don't want from within the Library module.

How many photos have been imported into your present catalog?

How many of them have you processed (made changes to)? If you start a new catalog and reimport the images that are in your current catalog, you will loose all the edits and work you have done in the existing catalog unless you created XMP files for those images that were processed.

hey KR Seals,

I bought a new NAS, that was the initial reason why I want build a new catalog. But after I came across this issue, I also tried with the old NAS (where I had no issue before) and I saw the same issue now. So I suppose this issue is nothing to do with the NAS. And yes, I use XMP for saving the changes from the photos.

I have already successfully processed 28,000 photos. Now with the issue, I cannot even import a folder with only 100 photos (on top of the already existing 28,000). So I assume there is something wrong with the software.

To answer the question from another post, the connection to NAS itself is fine. I can during the time always access the NAS file system and do copy, moving operations.

And when the issue occurs, the load of all components I can notice is okay (CPU, memory, network, disk etc.).

What is drive H: in your system? Is that a mapping to the NAS? If so, LrC does not like the catalog on a NAS.

oh no, haha, that is my SSD. I just have a little bit more hard-disk drivers 🙂

It sounds like you've taken on a huge project. We'd be happy to help you figure out what's going on, but we need a little more information to better understand the situation.

When you say "stuck," do you mean Lightroom freezes entirely, or does the progress bar just stop moving?
I just wanted to confirm that you are adding images to your catalog. (The screenshot does show adding, but I wanted to triple-check)
Is Build Previews or Build Smart Previews enabled during import? If so, which options are selected?

Please also share your system info. You can find this by going to Help > System Info. Copy and paste this into text file and attach to your response.

1. the progress was stucked, however, the lightroom itself is also not smooth and had "no response"

2. yes, the photos were added to a new created catalog

3. I already set the minimum preview.
