Can someone recommend professional help to find my LR catalog files.  I had to reinstall windows and LR and now I can't find my current catalog.  And yes, I've done a search on *.lrcat.

Hey, @mapatl. Welcome to the Lightroom Community. I'll clarify this for you.

Where was your catalog stored before you reinstalled Windows?

By default, Lightroom's catalog is created and kept in the user's Pictures folder on the operating system drive (generally, C drive). Depending on how you reinstalled Windows, chances are that the C drive is generally wiped clean. If searching for LRCAT does not turn up anything, you might have to try a third-party data recovery tool. Please research and wait for our Experts to recommend other tools.

Thanks!

@Sameer K said "If searching for LRCAT does not turn up anything, you might have to try a third-party data recovery tool." I am skeptical because in the case of re-writing the entire operating system onto the C drive, a large file such as an LrC catalog file could get (partly) overwritten, making it unrecoverable. Had the situation been different, and someone accidentally deleted the LrC catalog file and nothing else, then it might be recoverable.

Do you have reformat your system drive?

Do you have only one drive ( drvie C:) in your computer or have you spplit the disk into two (or more partitions) like C: ; 😧 etc.?

Have you made regular data backups in Lightroom and/or a system backup?

My System: Intel i7-8700K - 64GB RAM - NVidia Geforce RTX 3060 - Windows 11 Pro 25H2 -- LR-Classic 15 - Photoshop 27 - Nik Collection 8 - PureRAW 5 - Topaz Photo

Reading between the lines, it sounds as if you don't have a recent backup of your catalog file. Is that correct?

When you say you did the search for *.lrcat, do you mean you searched all disks and all folders for *.lrcat?
