New MacBook Pro- Lightroom 6.14 won't start

I recently had to upgrade my MacBook Pro.  Lightroom 6.14 ran perfectly on my mid-2016 MacBook Pro, but now it crashes immediately on start when I try to open it on my new machine.  After I click the LR icon to launch, I see the startup screen flash on for a split second, then it disappears and LR fails to launch. No error messages.

 

I should note this was not a fresh install, it was restored from a backup drive along with everything else when I bought the new machine (I can't find my original disk).  I typically store all of my photo files on an external HD, and the LR catalog is stored locally on my MacBook drive.

 

New machine is M1 max/64 Gb memory/Ventura 13.1

 

I'm at a loss on how to resolve.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Even if you get it working, it would be risky to rely on it for serious work. Lightroom 6 isn’t supported on either Apple Silicon Macs or macOS 13 Ventura, and you have both. The only people who are able to run it on versions of macOS after 10.15 are those who used Apple Migration Assistant to transfer the data from their old Mac to their current one, because macOS blocks the Lightroom 6 installer from running on versions after macOS 10.15 (the installer isn’t 64-bit compliant). So, even if you did have your original Lightroom 6 disk, it would not be possible to run the installer on macOS 11, 12, or 13.

 

In other words, Apple has put both Mac hardware and macOS itself through major changes since Lightroom 6 and the application just isn’t adapted for them. Of course, Lightroom Classic 12 (the current version) is properly updated for macOS 13 on an Apple Silicon Mac.

 

And if you paid the extra money for the M1 Max because you wanted the power of its additional CPU and GPU cores, Lightroom Classic 12 has the code to make good of those, but Lightroom 6 would not be able to properly use the full potential of the hardware. For example, Lightroom Classic 12 can use all CPU cores for preview generation, and can use GPU acceleration for the Develop module and bulk exporting.

Thanks Conrad, that would explain it.  Very frustrating, I'm not interested in paying a monthly subscription fee for software I only use a few time per year.
