why does lightroom classic not read or open sony rx1R mark 3 raw files while PS does?

The likely reason you are seeing this is that your Lightroom installation is out of date. Classic's currently 14.5 and does support this camera. What version do you have installed? Please go to Help>System Info… and provide us with your software's installed version number.

Photoshop uses the Camera Raw plug-in to read Raw files. Lightroom works differently. It has camera support included in the program itself.

Both Camera Raw and Lightroom need to be updated separately to get support for new cameras.
