Nikon D500 and Lightroom 6 Still can't read files

I was using 5.7.1 and bought a D500. Figured out I had to upgrade after reading lots of postings. Used the upgrade from the Adobe site to purchase and download v6. Installed it and still cannot read my NEF files. Tried to contact Adobe support but was told the product was no longer supported. What? I just bought it from THEM tonight.

Any help here? Did I get ripped off buying a product that I can't use and they don't support even though I bought it from them?

The Nikon D500 requires at least LR 6.5: Cameras supported by Camera Raw , whereas you may have LR 6.0 installed.  Do Help > System Info to see the exact version you have.  You can download the latest (and last) version of LR 6, 6.13, from here: Download Photoshop Lightroom

You can see my setup. Not that fancy. As a friend said once, "just a simple, country photographer". I shoot high school theatre and some motorsports. Gotta plow through around a thousand shots of the current production.

    Lightroom version: 6.13 [ 1141928 ]

THank you manual download and install. And now I can see my files.

I will look at the link you suggest. Adobe does not make this easy, especially the way they are naming things now.

I am not sure I gain much with the web-based system. Very happy with my stand-alone, if it works.

Thank you guys for your help. I am going to see if this version is stable enough to use.

The great majority of users found the later versions of LR 6 stable and useful, though people with high-end systems (more than four physical CPUs / 8 virtual CPUs) often found performance really bad.

    Redownloaded now installing manually.

You've been victimized by Adobe's incompetent and misleading marketing.  The Lightroom Queen has some very good posts about Adobe's Lightroom product lineup, which you might find helpful: https://www.lightroomqueen.com/the-future-of-lightroom/

The seventh major version of LR that runs on the desktop was released last month by Adobe. They market it as Adobe Lightroom Classic.  The latest update to Lightroom Classic is 7.0.1.  Lightroom Classic is only available on a subscription basis.

The sixth major version of LR was available on a subscription basis and a perpetual-license basis. The subscription version was called Lightroom CC 2015 (CC = Creative Cloud), and the perpetual-license version was called Lightroom 6.  The last update to Lightroom CC 2015 was 2015.12, and the last update to Lightroom 6 was 6.13.  At the time that Lightroom Classic was released, Adobe announced that they would provide one last update to Lightroom 6, 6.13, which came out a couple weeks later.

At the same time that Lightroom Classic was released last month, Adobe released a major change to its pure cloud/mobile offering, including a version of Lightroom Mobile that runs on Mac and Windows desktops.  They call this Lightroom CC. (Seriously, no joke.)  The new Lightroom CC has most of the editing features of Lightroom Classic but stores all of your photos in the cloud (like Lightroom Mobile), and its library features are greatly restricted compared to Classic.

Until you posted last night, I didn't realize that Adobe is still selling Lightroom 6.  But I see that it is still listed on the US "View all products" page: Adobe products: desktop, web, and mobile applications | Adobe .   For Adobe to continue selling Lightroom and then have support tell you it isn't supported is their typical incompetence.  It may well be officially supported, but their support often gives out wrong answers, so it's hard to know.

If you want the very latest desktop Lightroom (Lightroom Classic 7.0.1) and you are willing to switch to the subscription service, you could try contacting Adobe customer service and ask to exchange or refund.  They sometimes do that, though trying to talk or chat with a live person is usually an exercise in frustration.

This is the file that downloaded from the Adobe site. It told me it autoinstalled, maybe not. I can click on it directly....

That's the whole application. After you install that then you need to install the Lightroom 6.13 update.

If you're using Windows, then scroll down to the Windows section and get the appropriate one.

Maybe I should uninstall the V6 and reinstall it?

Won’t achieve anything. Install the 6.13 update manually.

So, should this version support the D500? Anyway, it seems so unstable I may have to go back to 5.7.1 and redo my edits just to get this job done.

No. You’re still running 6.0. No updates have been applied yet.

If you’re relying on Help > Updates inside Lightroom, don’t. It’s notoriously flaky and often fails. Update manually instead.

In addition, this version seems very unstable and keeps freezing when I'm editing photos from my D3S which version 5.7.1 had no issues on.
