No synchronization progress/Synchronization to the cloud is stuck at 788 images

Hi all,

I am having trouble with the upload of smart previews.

Note: The operating system and Lightroom are running in German. The messages are translated, so the terminology may be incorrect.

Lightroom Version Number: Lrc, Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Classic, Version 13.5 Camera Raw 16.5, Build [202408062022-6258095b]

OS Version Number: 14.6.1 (23G93)

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Create a local collection.
  2. Right-click on the collection.
  3. Select the “Sync with Lightroom” command.

Expected result:

  1. All smart previews are uploaded to the Lightroom cloud.
  2. I receive an error message if there is no change in status after more than 5-10 minutes.

Actual result:

File synchronization is stuck at 788 files. This situation has persisted for 5 hours.

Details:

  • There is no error message, not even in the “Preferences” dialog, under the “Lightroom Sync” tab: In the “Sync Activity” section, files to be uploaded are listed. All files have the note “Uploading” in the first column.
  • In the settings, the option “Prevent system from sleeping during sync” is enabled.
  • The synchronization is not paused.
  • Restarting Lightroom Classic and the computer made no difference.
  • I have a bandwidth of 40-50 Mbps from my local network to the internet (upload). From the internet (download), I have a bandwidth of 100 Mbps. A bandwidth test showed that the full bandwidth is available. Therefore, the internet connection is not a cause of the issue.
  • There is enough space: 4.8 out of 20 GB of my cloud storage is used.

The error is now having critical effects. The synchronization blockage now prevents me from downloading >600 images from the cloud. So, I can only access my images through workarounds (download from Lightroom Web, manual import). My workflow no longer works.

I should also add that I am uploading a total of around 2,800 smart previews. The upload of 2,000 smart previews was completed within an hour. Since then, the upload has been stuck at 788 images.

Hey, @bruecker. Welcome to the Lightroom Classic community. I'll help you figure this out. Where do you keep your catalog on an internal or external drive? Are any of these Smart Previews missing the original files?

Log in to Lightroom Web (https://adobe.ly/3uv2zCA), look for the Sync Issues category near the Deleted section on the left part of the screen, and delete any images with Sync issues. If you have a backup of these images, you can clear them out and delete them from the deleted section.

You can also clear the Deleted Section & once you clear them out, let Lightroom Classic run for a while to let it resolve most of the issues.

If there aren't any Sync Issues, apply flags or star rating the images that are stuck & wait for the attributes to sync up to the cloud.

Let me know how it goes. Thanks!

Hi @Sameer K !

Thank you for your message. I apologize for the delayed response.

> Where do you keep your catalog, on an internal or external drive? Are any of these Smart Previews missing the original files?

Regarding the storage location:

  • The catalog database is on the internal hard drive.
  • Some folders are on an external hard drive.
  • The external hard drive has been connected the entire time.

Regarding missing images:

  • I searched for missing images, found some that were missing (they were not part of the collections I want to synchronize), and deleted the missing images. Restarted Lightroom Classic, waited 20 Minutes. No result.

Nothing is displayed here. See the screenshot. Is this the place where the issues should show up? (Sorry, the screenshot is in German.)

> You can also clear the Deleted Section & once you clear them out, let Lightroom Classic run for a while to let it resolve most of the issues.

I have permanently emptied all images from the trash in Lightroom Web, restarted Lightroom Classic, waited for 20 minutes, no change.

Sorry, I don't understand that.

@Sameer K  Did I follow your recommendations correctly so far? What would be the next steps? Is there a log file somewhere that could help with troubleshooting?
