Community Beginner ,
Oct 01, 2017 Oct 01, 2017

How can I have the date the image was taken embedded in the jpeg when I export it. When I click on get info only the modified date shows up.

Thanks in advance Adrian

Open the file in preview on your Mac. Do a Get Info (command-I). Click on Exif. Look for "Date time Digitized". That will be the day and time you took the image originally

How are you looking for the date?

What are your Metadata settings during the export? Make sure to choose a setting that does not exclude this data.

Thanks for the reply.

I have the box ticked for ITPC Image

Date created and the correct date and time is shown in the meta data of the original file.

And with the box ticked it should be embedded into the jpeg I export.

However the i click on get info on the jpeg it just has date created and the date modified showing.

They are both the same and obviously not the actual date I took the photograph on.

Ive tried a few different things and asked a few people but know one seems to know.

Cheers Adrian Boyle

Which box are you talking about?

Please post a screen-shot of your metadata export settings.

However the i click on get info on the jpeg it just has date created and the date modified showing.

As asked before, how are you looking for this? Which program are you using?

What is your OS and the exact version of Lightroom?

Towards the bottom of the first image you can see the folder IPTC and I've ticked the box that has the date created in it. Im using Lightroom CC 2015

Im on a mac with operating system Mac OS sierra 10.12.5

The 2nd image below is what shows up when I click on the jpeg that I've created with get info and thats what shows up.

Thanks for looking into this for me.

Cheers Adrian

What you show in the upper image is the IPTC Metadata Edit screen - this has nothing to do with the Metadata that is exported.

This is why I asked for the print-screen of the metadata export settings.

The actual shot date/time is in the EXIF metadata from the camera and can not be modified with the IPTC edit screen. If it is wrong, there's a separate function to modify it.

What you show below are the dates of the file which has , of course, been created when you exported it from LR. Since you are not seeing the capture date in 'more info' I suspect that you did not export the metadata.

Again, this is why I asked for the print-screen of the metadata export settings.

Ok I think this is where I'm going wrong then as i thought by ticking those boxes thats what was exported as metadata to the jpeg file.

Are you able to explain where I go then to see the metadata export settings?

Thanks for the above links.

It seems that what I have been doing for the past few years is correct.

I have the box for meta data saying include all metadata.

Im just not sure that its even possible to see this when viewing jpegs in preview on the mac.

I am yet to see someones info from a jpeg image that they have exported showing the actual date the photo was taken.

If someone does have that then I know that its possible and what I'm doing is wrong but at the moment for me at least is that i have all the right boxes ticked but it just won't show up. Thanks again

Thanks heaps. Found it.  When i just click on the jpeg and click get info the digitised and original date does not show up. Also it doesn't give me the option to click on Exif data.

However as your message showed if I first open it up in preview and then do get info then i get the same box that you posted and can click on exif data and it shows.

This is what I was after. Thanks
