P: Edit in PS from Lightroom does not open the image in PS

Have an edited image in Lightroom that I want to continue editing with Photoshop. Right click opens PS but the image doesn't move into PS. Instead the Photoshop window opens with my most recent images showing but no way to move the lightroom image to PS.

Windows 11, PS 24.7.0 and LR 12.5

I have been reluctant to process this "fix" as I have installed, Topaz, Nik, Sky replacement images etc etc. I assume I will have to do this again after the PS LR reinstall?

Yes, you may have to reinstall some stuff (although you could probably just move the plugins out of the plugins folder and move them back in after reinstalling Photoshop), but do you want to fix this or not? If you want to fix this, then you'll have to accept that it could mean some extra work.

Looks like, instead of Adobe fixing this issue, we now have to lose productivity time uninstalling and reinstalling apps they we pay for.

What a stupid system.

I have the same issue and wholeheartedly agree that while reinstalling may 'fix' the issue, it's a hacky solution and ignores the actual issue.  Adobe needs to fix their product and offer a solution that doesn't require reinstalling software. If Microsoft said 'reinstall Windows' every time users had bugs they'd have no users.

I have the same issue for a few weeks now in MACOS Sequoia. I deinstalled en reinstalled LRC, PS and PS Beta several times, nog I can develop in LRC but still nog in PS Beta, first I went to an earlier version of LRC 13.2 that worked but that doesn't works not anymore. All the time messages about missing component or cant communicate with PS.

I tried uninstall/reinstall multiple times. No luck. I finally bit the bullet and did an online chat. The agent was very good. They tried multiple fixes and ended up clearing out all PS and LR files and doing a total clean install. 3-1/2 hours. It now works correctly. Painful. Adobe agent did a great job and stuck with it.

Hi all,

We're sorry for the challenges you're experiencing while sending files from Lightroom Classic to Photoshop for further editing. If you're still facing trouble, please refer to the troubleshooting article, which offers solutions to address the following problems:

  1. The "Edit In" command is grayed out.
  2. The "Edit In Photoshop" command is missing.
  3. The "Edit In" command fails to open photos in Photoshop.

We hope the suggested solutions in the article will assist in resolving the issue.

Thanks,

Nikunj

Same problem here. It's already set to Photoshop 2024 (as the only option). It has worked fine before, but then I updated Photoshop two days ago and now nothing happens. Everything is up to date and I have tried to uninstall and install. Nothing works.

After yesterday update the problem was still there, so I uninstalled photoshop including preferences, and re-installed it.

Now it works. Tried the same solution before the update and it didn't solved. You can try the same...

I have had this issue multiple times this year. It appears that the when you have multiple versions of PS installed (24, Beta, 2024) the plugins get "confussed". I resolvede this by unintalling the older versions then reinstalled 2024.

Thank you, but no older or different version are installed. I will try to wait for an update or I will try to re-install photoshop, that was my last updated program...I think it's where the problem is...

Ok, so we just have to wait the new camera raw? I don't have time to downgrade camera raw now...I was in the middle odf a delivery and had to export all in dng, open bridge and do the modifications in photoshop from there...

I have the same problem, started in the last few days. Thanks to other posters in this thread for advice.

What did NOT fix it:

  • Restarting LR Classic
  • Restarting PS
  • Restarting computer

What DID fix it:

  • Uninstall LrC and PS through Creative Cloud app, select the option to keep settings. Reinstalled PS, then reinstalled LrC.

I can verify that my preferences/settings seem to be saved after reinstalling.

From LR CC I send a photograph to "Edit in Adobe PS 2023". PS opens, but the image does not open.

Happens with any file (RAW, JPG, etc.)

Mac Os Ventura 13.5.2.
ACR 15.5
LR CC 12.5
APS 2023 24.7.0

When the 'link' between Lightroom Classic and Photoshop has issues, the first step is to try this:

Use the Adobe Creative Cloud Application to uninstall Photoshop. When asked, keep preferences! After this reinstall Photoshop again.

If this doesn't help the nest step is to reinstall both apps Lightroom and Photoshop. Please folloe the steps below:

1. Open the Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop Client and uninstall both Photoshop and Lightroom Classic. When asked, keep preferences!

2. Install Photoshop first and then Lightroom Classic. The right order is very important here!

If this doesn't help try the reinstallation with removing the preferences also.

My System: Intel i7-8700K - 64GB RAM - NVidia Geforce RTX 3060 - Windows 11 Pro 25H2 -- LR-Classic 15 - Photoshop 27 - Nik Collection 8 - PureRAW 5 - Topaz Photo

Mac OS Ventura 13.5.2

Lightroom Classic 12.5

Photoshop 24.7.0

Unistalling Photoshop and keeping preferences then reinstalling through the Creative Cloud app solved the problem for me. I did not have to unistall and reinstall Lightroom. I was very hesitant before uninstalling but decided the impact of having my workaround creating extra work wasn't worth waiting for Adobe to fix the issue. I wonder why Adobe doesn't address these issues before each release? Their quality and control seems to be lacking... I am so impressed with this community comraderie and resulting help to fix this problem BEFORE Adobe even let's users know there IS, in fact, a problem!
