macOS Sequoia will be released on Sepmtember 16th. Will Lightroom Classic support the new release from day one?

Adobe normally publish a document a few days before/after OS release advising of any issues that users may experience.. Therefore, if you don't absolutely need to update the OS it might be wise to wait a day or so before upgrading.

I'm pretty sure that the current version of Lightroom Classic (13.5.1) will have issues, so my advice is not to upgrade to Sequoia yet. Wait for a Lightroom update where Adobe says it's compatible.

There is a page on Adobe's site that usually shows what bugs are found with each release. I have been looking for it myself and can't find it...

Here is the link to the page you mentioned. No news yet about the compatibility with macOS Sequoia. Adobe is very slow with this, so I don't have big hopes of news any time soon.

Traditionally, and this is going back 10 years or more, Adobe does not tend to declare support on day one of a new macOS release. Each product team typically publishes a compatibility report or release some time later.
A big reason is that many developers (not just Adobe) like to test with the actual .0 release that the public gets. User often say “But isn’t this what the beta period is for, weren’t you testing with the beta all this time?” And usually, yes, they were. But many developers have been caught by surprise by late Apple changes between the last beta release and the first production .0 release that broke something in their software. So they are now not comfortable saying “yes, it works!” until they have time to run the actual .0 release through whatever their test suite is. And that test time starts from the day it’s released, which is today.
I also did a quick search for any new Adobe documents about Sequoia compatibility, but I don’t see any yet, but again, I’m not surprised…for the reasons above.
Personally, I don’t upgrade macOS until 6 to 9 months after it’s released. I like to wait out all of the early release bugs and not waste time troubleshooting things that Apple will fix in a couple of months. And remember, it’s never just about one application like Lightroom Classic…it’s also about everything else that it has to work with, like my printers, my display profiler, my graphics tablet…I have to wait until all device drivers I use also declare compatibility with the next macOS.

First website I found with any news regarding this. Not much help though, but maybe in the near future...

I had an embarrasing day yesterday with a client as I tried to tether my Canon R5.... not dice... I uninstalled lightroom and reinstalled and no go. When I got home I tried on another computer and the camera tehtered happily. I concluded that it must be a software issue related to Sequoia and if so, then Lightroom needs to make an update pretty soon... Next job on Friday and I will need connectivity!

My computer was updated to Sequoia automatically unfortunately, and while editing pictures in Lightroom Classic still works, tethering does not for me. The app can't find any connected camera and just freezes.

Thanks for this update - will hold off until this is resolved. Tethering in Lightroom is so so finickity anyways with my R5. Really wish they'd revamp the code and make this fast and reliable like Capture One.

I also have an R5, and I normally use EOS Utility for tethering and just have LR auto-import the pictures simultaneously. That is a smoother process for me than tethering directly in LR. The Live feature also works better in EOS I think, But of course EOS doesn"t work either for me after updating to Sequoia.

Oh dear, well again thx for the update Louise. Now.... you would think that Adobe would have been all over the Beta of this OS update, right? Anyone else think this is quite unbelievable that they haven't made sure their code is working well under Sequoia?! Sure, i can hold off updating, but, really Adobe?!! Canon too lol....

Because MacOS can be changed until the very last moment before launch, Adobe will never have a fully compatible version of Lightroom Classic on the day of the launch or even the week of the launch. That is the same every year. Just the same as the remarks about it every year...

Sadly, I feel like Adobe doesn't really seem to care much about the user experience these days. Tethering has never been a priority for them to fix, and it's been over a decade since I first started complaining about it. I wish they would figure out how to make wireless tethering work. I had it working on Capture One for a while, but then it broke with their recent updates. Hopefully, this gets fixed sooner rather than later. It's embarrassing to be in front of clients with thousands of dollars of equipment and the software doesn't work.

@SteveDPhoto , you stated "It's embarrassing to be in front of clients with thousands of dollars of equipment and the software doesn't work."
I guess you are referring to your Camera equipment and the software the manufacturer provides you with that allows you to tether to your Computer?

I don't understand your question.

@SteveDPhoto , you have not provided info on the Camera equipment you are using so there is no way for me to check if LrC presently supports tether capture for your Camera model.
Surely your Camera manufacture did provide you with support for your expensive equipment at purchase.

Oh okay. I am using a Canon R5 and a Canon R6 on a 2023 MacBook Pro M3.
I apologize if my earlier tone was rude and I promise to do better with my responses. I'd appreciate the same courtesy. I had an art director making fun of me for having all this equipment at our shoot and not being able to do something simple like tether to my laptop, and trying to get it to connect was holding up the shoot and causing an issue for my client. While they are not my favorite people in the world, they do pay very well, but this is likely the last time I will have the opportunity since I was fired from the gig over it.

Samr behavior here, Lightroom Classic cannot find the connected Camera anymore, it just freezes the app. Tetherintg through EOS software works fine, but I prefer the embedded tethering solution.

Really, you can tether through EOS Utility on Sequoia? That's EOS Utility 3, right? My app freezes when I try to open it.

Yep. Same situation here. My computer updated to Squoia and now i can't shoot thether on lightroom classic. It jus freezes the tether window. Does anyone know how to downgrade my macos to Sonoma again? I work everyday on the studio. This is going to be a nightmare.

The best practices for a major macOS upgrade are the same as they have been for many years:
1. Make sure all business-critical applications and device drivers (for printers, graphics tablets, etc.) are compatible with the OS version you are thinking of upgrading to. If you’re not sure, do not upgrade and stay on the current version of macOS, especially if your business depends on that computer.
2. Make a complete, current, restorable backup of your Mac, and understand how to do the restoration if needed. If you’ve been using Apple Time Machine, that should work.
It’s already too late for #1, because the major upgrade was already done before waiting to find out if Lightroom Classic had any issues. So now we are at #2.
Macs offer a Recovery Mode for easy restoration. If you’ve been using Time Machine to keep current backups, try using the Restore from a Time Machine Backup option to restore the last backup made under macOS 14. Any files or edits you made after that backup (after the macOS 15 upgrade) aren’t going to be in that backup.

You pretty much have to start over with reinstalling Sonoma and then migrating your data. Its not hard but takes a while, especially if you aren't knowledgeable about computer migrations.

I downgraded to Sonoma again and couldnt be happier. Of course i paid a person to do it.. and all the struggle to backup everything and then install all plugins etc.. anyway, its the best it could happen. I will never ever upgrade systems again. Not until everything is ready! Im back working with joy. Hahaha.
