This post is applicable to Lightroom Classic.

ETAs for tethered support for specific cameras are not available.

Tethered Capture is a feature of Lightroom Classic that allows the direct connection of your camera to the Lightroom desktop environment. Images are imported into your Lightroom catalog as they are captured via the connected camera.

New camera support for reading the raw files is generally added quickly after a camera is released by its manufacturer.  New camera support can be verified here: https://helpx.adobe.com/camera-raw/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html

Tethered support for a particular camera model normally follows a version or two after the raw file support. Adobe relies on the manufacturer’s (Nikon & Canon) SDK (Software Development Kit) to facilitate the tethering of your camera to Lightroom. The timing of the release of a manufacturer’s support via their SDK greatly affects the time to release for tethered support. In addition, Adobe goes through a rigorous process of integrating the functionality of the SDK and tests tethering before support is announced.

To see if your camera is supported for tethering on your version of Lightroom, refer to this document: https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/tethered-camera-support.html

If your camera is listed, but your Lightroom version is too old, you may need to update or upgrade to enable tethering.

If your camera is not listed, and your camera’s raw file isn't supported, you would need to check with the camera’s manufacturer to see if they support tethering via their SDK.

Note: Not all camera manufacturers or models will necessarily receive tether support.

Adobe,
it's been 3 months now, since I opened: ADB-26052006-M1Y1. There have been several updates for Lightroom, still Lightroom Classic is not able to shoot tethered with the Canon R5 C.
The R5 C is out since January 2022!
As I mentioned last time Capture One can do this for months already. What is your problem here? Why are you not implementing this?
Is Adobe for Hobbyists and Pros like me have to switch to Capture One to get our Cameras working now or what do you recommend?

This is really frustrating me and I'm considering to cancel the subscription finally.

Adobe is apparently very keen to lose customers to CaptureOne.

Is this true? Even after the newest update of Lightroom, the tethering of the Canon EOS R5 C is still not possible.

Hello team,

I just installed Lightroom Classic 12.1 on my Mac under Ventura 13.0.1

I tried to thether my Nikon Z7II via LRC in WIFI mode. LRC tells me my Z7II is not detected.

My Mac is well connected to the WIFI from my Z7II et Nikon Wireless Transfer Utility is up.

Could you help me or it is a bug ?

To be more complete tethering with a USB-C cable works fine.

Thanks.

Gilles

WTF Nikon and Adobe!!! Get it together!!! I've had my Z9 forever and I still can't shoot tethered! Totally unacceptable ! Why buy top end products if you have to shoot at low end options. This is totally  unacceptable.

Adobe has had ample opportunity to deal with this.  The Z9 was released a year ago.  There are cameras on the tethered supported list that were released around the same time.  Its bad enough that LR moves like a snail with Z9 files, not being able to shoot tethered is a professional embarrassment.

From what I am hearing, this is Adobe's way of forcing camera makers to pay Adobe to develop software compatible with all the camera features.

So there is a stalemate and the only option high-end Nikon, Sony and Canon owners have is to buy Capture One.

Using Nikon software is another option but if you try and use it with Lightroom, the software is extremely slow. So there you have it. Adobe vs. the World. Photographers are expendable since they don't see them as a profit center in the future since AI is going to put a lot of the lowered ones out of business.

One year after the Z9 release and Nikon and Adobe still haven’t sorted out the support of tethered capture in Lightroom Classic. For a camera which is Nikon’s new professional “Flagship” claimed to be ‘UNSTOPPABLE’ that is unless you’re trying to tether the thing! We’ll most likely get Content Authenticity Initiative tech in the Z9 before tethering support in LRC.

I know it is very new, but any idea when the EOS R6 Mark ii will be recognized for tethering in Lightroom Classic

Adobe never announces this in advance. It will be available when it is available. Please check this after each new release of Lightroom Classic: https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/tethered-camera-support.html

Are Adobe willing to clarify their stance on Sony tethering (both now and in the near future) or are they just recommending that any professional with a Sony camera stop their Adobe subscription and purchase Capture One instead?

Wow, I thought Z9 users had it bad! Came here to get some answers on that, only to find Sony users in a worse position - they must be tearing their hair out. And what makes it worse is this Adobe Coporate Wall of Silence, meaning that you don't even know if they're working on something or not. How wonderful.
