This post is applicable to Lightroom Classic.

ETAs for tethered support for specific cameras are not available.

Tethered Capture is a feature of Lightroom Classic that allows the direct connection of your camera to the Lightroom desktop environment. Images are imported into your Lightroom catalog as they are captured via the connected camera.

New camera support for reading the raw files is generally added quickly after a camera is released by its manufacturer.  New camera support can be verified here: https://helpx.adobe.com/camera-raw/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html

Tethered support for a particular camera model normally follows a version or two after the raw file support. Adobe relies on the manufacturer’s (Nikon & Canon) SDK (Software Development Kit) to facilitate the tethering of your camera to Lightroom. The timing of the release of a manufacturer’s support via their SDK greatly affects the time to release for tethered support. In addition, Adobe goes through a rigorous process of integrating the functionality of the SDK and tests tethering before support is announced.

To see if your camera is supported for tethering on your version of Lightroom, refer to this document: https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/tethered-camera-support.html

If your camera is listed, but your Lightroom version is too old, you may need to update or upgrade to enable tethering.

If your camera is not listed, and your camera’s raw file isn't supported, you would need to check with the camera’s manufacturer to see if they support tethering via their SDK.

Note: Not all camera manufacturers or models will necessarily receive tether support.

When will you be able to directly tether into Lightroom using a Sony a7R III?

Currently, this camera is not being supported. Is this something that will be available soon?

See this post from @John R Ellis which explains why it is not supported, and why you should discuss this with Sony, not Adobe.

Hey Adobe,

Like tens of thousands of others, I have a bought a Canon R5 II and shoot tethered in my studio.

When will you support this with Lightroom? Capture 1 already does.

Every camera is different. Since the Z6 III has been released just a few months ago, I'd expect it to be supported with the next update to LrC.

As long as camera producers don't use the very same format at least within the same line, and change different stuff from model to model, Adobe needs to adapt to these changes with every new model. It's nothing Adobe can change.

J'espère que Adobe va faire évoluer Lightroom afin que le Z63 et d'autres boîtiers soient compatibles avec un mode connecté. Thanks for all 🙏

"I hope Adobe will evolve Lightroom so that the Z63 and other cameras will be compatible with a tethered mode."

Adobe relies on the Nikon SDK for tethering, and the Nikon SDK doesn't yet support the Z 6 III:

https://sdk.nikonimaging.com/apply/

So you should send feedback to Nikon as well.  Once Nikon adds support, it will show up in LR perhaps several months later. See this Adobe FAQ for more information:

I would be very interested in being able to do tethered capture in LR Classic with my Canon R5 C.  I do tethered shooting for professional jobs, and using the  Auto Import option doesn't work given the 9 second load time.  I see that LRC supports tethering with the Canon R5, virtually the same camer as the R5 C.  I may have to swith to Capture One but would rather be able to stick with LRC, which I've been using for years.
