P: Upgrading to Sequoia breaks tethering

Community Beginner ,
Sep 21, 2024 Sep 21, 2024

Hi,

I am having issues in Tethering shoot, whereby lightroom will not connect to live view (but is able to import files from camera) and just hangs, it has to be killed in order quit. I am using lightroom on Intel Mac with MacOS Sequoia, camera is Canon 650D. Camera is able to connect via eos utlity and show live view.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks,

TM

Had the same problem the other day.  I work in the cultural heritage sector and tethering is vital for positioning and using colour correcting tools.... I was only getting the spinning wheel when trying to tether and a crash... otherwise I can download from my camera whilst hooked up with the cable.  deeply frustrating....and embarrasing and time wasting on site and using other peoples time for conservation and object access.  When trying my wife's old macbook pro... tethers in no time and no pr

Presumably, this will be restored by a future OS update.

Installation of version 14.0 may mitigate the Sequoia tether issue.

Lighroom freezes when using thethered shooting since just last week on my iMac in the studio.

It works fine on my Macbook and mij Windows PC in the office.
All software is updated, including camera firmware

iMac has been completely reïnstalled with a clean installation.
I did this after spending several hours with Adobe support to no avail.

Any sugestions?
I would be glad for any help.

You triggered me with your OS Question. I found some feeds on internet of others experiencing tethering problems with Sequoia. I will try an downgrade back tot Sonoma and see if the problem is solved.
I will post my findings.

Problem solved. I Downgraded Mac OS, from Sequoia reïnstalled Lightroom (and everything else) and my problems were solved. Lightroom obviously wasn't Tested with Mac OS Sequoia. I wish I could bill Adobe for the many hours I had to spend to find this out and solved the problem.

It would have been a great help if the support engineer knew about this and told me. 😞

I had the same issue and had to downgrade as well. Major pain in the butt but it works now. Not sure if 15.0.1 fixes the issue but I'm not going to try it to find out.

Trying to tether multiple cameras to Lightroom Classic 13.5.1, all of which I have tethered to the same Lightroom before, and currently tether to Capture One (ruling out camera, cord, etc. issues), also am able to tether to another iMac using the same Lightroom version, granted the iMac was running Sonoma 14.6.1. This isn't just on my laptop either, have been running into this issue with other user's laptops.

My current operation system: Sequoia 15.0.1 (24A348)

Computer: Macbook Pro 16-inch, 2023, M3

Troubleshooting I have tried already:

1)Uninstalling and reinstalling Lightroom

2)Tried every port on computer

3)Different tether cables

4)Different sequence of turning camera on/off, plugging in, etc.

5)Deleted Lightroom Preferences via:

https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/troubleshoot-tethered-capture-lightroom.html

6)Memory card in and out of camera

7)Destination folder both Pictures and Desktop

Hey there,

We're sorry for the trouble. We need more details to help you. What version of Lightroom Classic and macOS are you using? Did you see a crash dialog? Was it Adobe’s or Apple’s?

Please check this to fix Lightroom Classic tethered issues: https://adobe.ly/3NiryyT

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Shivani

"MacOs Sequoia 15.0.1 and Canon 6D firmware 1.1.9"

There are lots of reports about tethering Canon cameras no longer working with Mac OS 15 (Sequoia).  This seemingly happens every fall with a new major version of Mac OS.  Adobe implies that a future Mac OS release could fix this.

I ended up using Capture One to capture my images through tethering and then use the Auto Import function to bring them into Lightroom Classic.  It's clunky, but this is the third time over the years I've used this solution until Adobe and Apple get the stuff together.
