With the latest LrD 7.0,  LrClassic 13.0 and ACR 16.0 release, here is some additional workaround that you can try:

If you encounter GPU driver issues while using ML features in LrClassic/LrD/ACR, please try to update to the latest macOS version or if you are on a Windows machine, follow https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/troubleshoot-gpu.html to update your machine to the latest GPU driver and  see if the problem resolves itself.

If the OS or the driver is not available or possible

bonjour,

j'ai exactement le même message et du coup

j'ai préféré revenir à l'ancienne version en attendant que cela se résolve, puisqu'apparement je ne suis pas toute seule avec ce bug !

When I use the sky selection it works fine the first time! If I edit another picture with the sky selection, an error message comes up (see picture)! When I restart Lightroom I can edit the picture again, but the same error message appears with every further picture! What's going on there?

@PICKUP IMAGES, Google translation of error: "An error has occurred. An unexpected error occurred and your request could not be completed."

Try updating your graphics driver following the precise instructions in this article:

https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/troubleshoot-gpu.html#solution-4

A number of people have reported that upgrading their graphics drivers fixed their problems with Select Subject and Sky.

Also, please copy/paste here the entire contents of the LR menu Help > System Info -- that will let Adobe know the precise versions of software and graphics drivers you're running.

@PICKUP IMAGES, the information about your graphics hardware and driver is blank:

Information about the graphics processor:

which is curious.

Did you try updating the graphics driver as described in the article I linked to?

If you could please, quit Lightroom Classic and go to:

C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CameraRaw\Logs

Collect the files there, zip them and let me know when they are ready and I will send instructions to send them.

It would be helpful to show Lightroom>Help>System Info... and share the type of GPU card and driver version that you have.

In this case, it looks your system has some Intel GPU card. If that is the case, please try to update to the latest Intel GPU driver  from this link https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/19344/intel-graphics-windows-dch-drivers.html?wapkw.... The latest version is around v30.0.100.9864.

Hi, I followed the link posted and followed the instructions given, it still does the same thing. sometimes when first turning on Lr it works once, maybe twice, after that I get the error message. What else could I possibly do to fix this problem, as it is annoying?

I followed all your instructions and have wasted two days trying to fix the problem in Adobe lightroom classic.  Everytime I try to select subject in the masks it throws an error message "Something Went Wrong" "There was an unexpected error and your request could not be completed." All my drivers are updated. Please fix this somehow. Its driving me crazy. Sometimes when I restart Lightroom classic, the select subject starts working again and in the next photo when start playing up again. Please Help. It was working fine before your last two updates. Please fix it. or give me a solution.

At "Muzz", I see that you have updated to LrC 11.4.1 and you are still experiencing problems.

Please try the following, in Lightroom preferences turn off the GPU acceleration in preferences then reboot your Operating System then restart LrC.

If that does not solve your problems then try resetting your LrC preferences.

Regards, Denis: iMac 27” mid-2015, macOS 11.7.10 Big Sur; 2TB SSD, 24 GB Ram, GPU 2 GB; LrC 12.5,; Lr 6.5, PS 24.7,; ACR 15.5,; (also Laptop Win 11, ver 23H2, LrC 14.0.1, ; ) Camera Oly OM-D E-M1.

"Everytime I try to select subject in the masks it throws an error message "Something Went Wrong" "There was an unexpected error and your request could not be completed.""

This indicates that LR thinks there is a bug in the graphics driver.  There have been a number of reports recently about other problems with the latest Radeon drivers (22.5.1 and 22.5.2, which you have).  I recall someone posting recently that rolling back to a six-month-old driver fixed their problem.

There's no way for us users to tell whether the underlying problem is a bug in the graphics driver or a bug in LR's use of the graphics drivers.  There are many bugs in drivers that are constantly getting fixed by newer releases, so we can't assume that the drivers are bug-free (and we know that LR is far from bug-free).

Note that disabling the GPU won't affect this error, since Select Subject/Sky doesn't obey the option Preferences > Performance > Use Graphics processor (unfortunately).

Two users in another thread reported the error "Something went wrong. Request could not be Completed."  They both had Intel HD chipsets with very old drivers (2016 and 2017), and one found this in an unspecified log:

GPU Init Status (part 2): I3_GPU3
GPU3 Hard Status Result (part 2): success
GPU3 Soft Status Result (part 2): fail_insufficient_driver
*** Error: ML prediction failure status code 3 ***

Neither has reported back yet on whether disabling the GPU or updating the driver helped.

(Does setting Preferences > Performance > Use Graphics Processor to Off disable LR's use of the GPU when applying ML models?)

Hi John,

To use or not to use the GPU for ML inference for a particular GPU/driver version is not within Lr's control. The platform OS will do the check at runtime. So turn off the Lr graphics processor option in the Lightroom user preference would not have any effect either way.

With the new update, when using Mask > Select Sky or Select Subject, i get an unexpected error message saying something went wrong and the request could not be completed.

This is incorrect -- it would be trivial to have LR obey the setting of Preferences > Performance > Use Graphics Processor when executing the models for Select Subject/Sky.  LR uses CoreML on Mac and ONNX on Windows to execute ML models, and both allow the client (LR) to specify whether to use the CPU or not. See here for details:

"So turn off the Lr graphics processor option in the Lightroom user preference would not have any effect either way."

Good to know, thanks.

The links you gave and Intel Automatic Driver Update says there is no update for my driver.

I can't imagine having to buy a new laptop with every other update of Lightroom?

I have had this happen to me several times and I'm using the latest Intel Drivers v30.0.100.9864 for my Intel UHD Graphics 750. I close LrC 11, relaunch and try again, usually successfully.

Since updating the app I have closed it and relaunched it a few times. Even re-installed it.

I just updated to v11 - all mask features are work, except the "select subject" and "select sky."  When I try to use these features I get an error titled "Something went wrong" with sub-text stating, "there was an unexpected error and your request could not be completed."  I attempted in other catalogs and received the same error message.
