Persistent Preview Cache Error in LR

Since last update at 20.09.2019 Lightroom Classic displays while starting the error:  "Lightroom encountered an error when reading from its preview cache and needs to quit. Lightroom will attempt to fix this problem the next time it launches." LR can´t be used.

Entsprechend der Empfehlung auf / according advice at

https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/lightroom-gives-error-preview-cache.html

habe ich den Ordner „Previews.lrdata“ mit den Dateien „previews.db“ und „root-pixels.db“ gelöscht und LR neu gestartet.

I deleted folder „Previews.lrdata“ with files „previews.db“ und „root-pixels.db“ and restarted LR.

Das hat überhaupt nichts geholfen! This didn´t help at all!

Finally i uninstalled LR Classic, deleted all LR files and then installed LR completely new. Even that didn`t help. The error persists and the start of LR failes. LR is unusable at all!

With LR Closed Open a File manager window, Finder on Mac and File Explorer on Windows, then go to the drive and then the folder your catalog is stored in and Delete the folder that is named YourCatalogName Previews.lrdata.

Then try opening LR. The Previews folder will be recreated at that time.

I didn´t find help, problem persists, can´t work.

The SSD works well. Maybe there is some hidden data/file structure currupted. But I don´t know which and how to repair.

The software developing engineers, who have written the code, should know which conditions have to be complied that program starting loop can pass without error stop.

But this knowledge is not available for me.

So how to get help!?

I don't know if it's helped but try to switch off the GPU support from the Lightroom preferences and check if that helps to fix the issue.

Go to Lightroom > Preferences > Performance tab > Uncheck "Use Graphics Processor" > Restart Lightroom.

Adobe Lightroom GPU Troubleshooting and FAQ

Another try is to create a new catalog and import some pictures . Then check if the error is gone.

Do you have read the linked document? In section 2 in this document it is described how to disable the GPU support outside of Lightroom.

Ok, the mixed languages in the original post causes issues with the translate feature. Copied the non english, pasted that into v1 of this reply, used the translate feature, COpied that to notepad, replaced the non english with that. And then put the english bits back in (may not be spot on)

Since the last update on September 20, 2019, Lightroom Classic has been continuously displaying the error message at startup: "There was an error reading the preview cache. Lightroom must be stopped." LR is no longer usable.

Since last update at 20.09.2019 Lightroom Classic displays while starting the error:

"Lightroom encountered an error when reading from its preview cache and needs to quit. Lightroom will attempt to fix this problem the next time it launches." LR can´t be used.

According to the recommendation on / according advice at

https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/lightroom-gives-error-preview-cache.html

I deleted the "Previews.lrdata" folder with the files "previews.db" and "root-pixels.db" and restarted LR.

That didn't help at all! This didn't help at all!

Finally, I de-satparted (uninstalled?)LR Classic, deleted all LR files, and then reinstalled the program. That, too, didn't help. The error continues to occur after the program starts. LR is no longer usable.

I will assume that you are starting lightroom by double clciking on the icon.

Instead, use your Windows File Explorer, navigate to where you store the catalog, and double clcik on the lrcat file. Need to make sure that you are working on the correct catalog.

Thank you for your efforts. Sad to say this hint didn´t solve the problem too. Starting LR by double-click on the lrcat file oft a new standard/default catalog result in the same fault.

I think you have a problem with the SSD.

Right click it in the File explorer, choose Properties > Tools > Error checking.

Also, you can copy the folder containing the catalog to a different drive, then double-click the catalog file to launch Lightroom. Delete the preview cache before you copy it over.

My guess is that this will stop the corruption of the previews.
