Photo Mechanic Crop not transferred to LR Classic

Good morning!

I use Photo Mechanic (PM) to cull my (mostly sports) images before importing them to Lightroom Classic. I recently read that crops applied in PM should carry over, non-destructively, when imported into LR. When I try this, both with drag-and-drop and "edit in..." the crops are not carried over. I'm on an M1 Mac mini running the latest versions of both PM (6.0, build 6496) and LR (11.5, current build). The files are raw Nikon (NEF) files. Has anyone else come across this problem? Thanks!

FYI... I did read through the Windows-related threads from 2021 and they suggested that a bug had been fixed; at least for Windows.

Good morning! It's an external Samsung T5 SSD drive (USB-C) that holds both my catalog and photos. Not quite as fast as keeping the catalog local but it makes switching to/from my laptop during travel more convenient.

The mystery was solved (see thread above) but I wanted to thank you for your time and advice. Much appreciated!

Please post your System Information as Lightroom Classic (LrC) reports it. In LrC click on Help, then System Info, then Copy. Paste that information into a reply. Please present all information from first line down to and including Plug-in Info. Info after Plug-in info can be cut as that is just so much dead space to us non-Techs.

Please double check, that you ate actually running LrC v11.5. Do you perhaps have more than one copy installed?

Looking back, this PM crop issue occurred in LrC v10.2, perhaps 10.3, and got fixed.

Confirmed. Only one version, the most current, exists on my computer.

I would ensure the nef raw images and the relevant sidecar are in a folder on your system. Use import  "add" select the folder with the raw and sidecar files.

Thanks for suggestion! I can confirm that the images and their related XMP side cares were together.

After some more testing I found that if I import the images into LR, select them in the library module and run the Read Metadata from File command on them from the menu bar or contextual menu, then the crop defined in PM is applied. In other words it seems that LR does not fully appy the settings from the XMP file on import. Interestingly, other items from the XMP (e.g. captions, color labels, creator info, etc.) are applied on import normally. Only the crop requires the extra step. It seems like a bug but at least I can manually apply my PM crops as needed.

Finally, the above only works if "Automatically write changes into the XMP" is OFF in LR's catalog settings. If it's on, then the uncropped state is baked into the XMP on import and the the crop info is no longer there to be read in manually.

Please attach here a sample .nef and .xmp that haven't yet been imported into LR.  With that, we can file an actionable bug report with reproducible steps.

Some additional information... If I take an image from PM to Photoshop, instead of LR, I get the expected result. The crop is carried over into Cameral Raw and can be modified if needed before opening in PS. I guess that suggests the issue is with LR and not PM.
