Pictures take a long time to load in Develop view

Hi guys,

I assume I am in the LRC Support Community.

I use LRC 12.5 release.

When I click on a thumbnail in G/Library View it takes 8-12 seconds to load on the screen in Develop. I have a brand new Macbook Pro (bought in June) with an Apple M2 Max chip ; and in my mind this should not happen.

Is there like a box to un-check in Sys Prefs, or some similar maneuver?

You should have it in the Mac OS X system settings app. It is not inside Lightroom itself. Where you find it in system settings is different depending on which Mac OS X version you are running

I have an M1 Max and switching to the Develop view is basically instantaneous (1-2 seconds max). 8-12 seconds is not right. One thing to make sure is that you have given Lightroom Classic full disk access in System Preferences->Privacy and Security->Full disk Access. Also make sure that in Lightroom's preferences, in the performance tab, you have set the GPU support to Auto which should give you full acceleration.

I am saddened and shocked to report there is no Privacy and Security under Sys Prefs. !!!

I hope I understand your question correctly, you have an image selected in the Library Module Grid view and move to the Develop Module to do some edits there?

If yes then you need to be aware that in the Library Module you are viewing a preview of the image which Lightroom has generated, When you switch to the Develop Module LrC first has the render the original image file with all previous edits applied to display since the previews are not used in the Develop Module.

What file type is the selected image, and where is it located!

I understand your explanation, and it makes perfect sense. What doesn't, is that with my previous, 12-year old Mac, the same operation took less than a second. Hence, my inquiry.

I agree it does appear to be unusually long if the original on you main disk drive.
