Pixelation in black and white images

New Here ,

I have recently converted several of my photos into black and white images and the results are very poor. There is really bad pixelation which is not evident in the original colour images. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.untitled (2 of 2)-3.jpg

Can you provide us with more info and perhaps with some screenshot?

There are a couple of ways to convert image to black and white. Which method you are using? Is your image above exported/saved? In which format is saved your image with which quality settings? Can you post screenshot with layers panel visible?

I initially used the profile browser in lightroom and this seems to be the issue. The image was saved as a JPEG, but you can still see the the problem in lightroom. I have since tried converting the image clicking on the treatment option and the result is much better. The original RAW file had been uploaded to the mobile version of lightroom and then downloaded to my computer at work. I've attached a screenshot of another image which is even worse. I realise this is a forum for photoshop, but I couldn't find another group specifically dedicated to lightroom, so a layers panel shot is not relevant. Thanks for your reply. Any insight from this screenshot would be appreciated.Capture.JPG

The pixelation and banding in your photos is typical for jpgs saved with a low quality setting.

So what quality setting did you choose in the Export dialog when you created the first image?

And for the second image, what jpg quality setting was used in the camera?

I need to review image quality on my computer with the original file. Looks like as you said that the exported images were saved at a very low quality setting. Thanks for your input.

The RAW file does not get uploaded to the cloud.

Is the pixelation therefore in the original file and could you post a cropped screenshot of it next to the problem result for us?

I now think I downloaded this from my Google picture library, it had been uploaded as a NEF file automatically when I saved it onto my tablet. I need to import the original file into lightroom classic on to my computer at home and review the image quality from there. There is definitely an issue with the profile browser black and white settings. There doesn't seem to be a problem when I convert the file directly to black and white and adjust it from there. I appreciate your comments. Looks like I've got to be a bit more diligent in noting the procedure I use. It's a learning curve.
