Is there a way to quickly search an installed lightroom preset knowing it's name? like a search bar/browser in the develop module?
Wobertc's solution is sufficient for most people, but if you want more sophisticated capabilities for organizing, searching, and previewing presets, try the Any Preset plugin.

No- there is no 'Search Bar' for presets as there is for Keywords.
Presets however always show sorted alphabetically. (and numbers before alphabet)
Develop Preset 'Folders' sort alphabetically and the presets within folders sort alphabetically.
You can use Explorer/Finder to re-arrange presets into folders with suitable names that make it easier to find your presets.

Now presets are not alphabettically anymore, preset creators have found the way to put their presets atop others when you install them.. a search bar implementation would be fairly easy and a welcome addition.

It always helps if you include a screen shot of what you are asking about and what you are seeiing on your computer screen.

AFAIK the Sections, the listings above and or below the fat grey lines, have never been in Alphabetical order.
Not sure how LrC determines which gets place first through last as far as sections.
But in each section the top catagory are in alphabetical order and if you expand each top catagory the actual list of P S will be listed alphabetically.
As in my screen shot "Default" "D" comes after C but that Default is between "Color" and "Curve". Then you have "Classic" "Cl" that comes before "Curve" "Cu".

This thread starts with a suggestion of 'how groups are defined'

But I leave explanations to others more knowledgeable, such as John Ellis and his Fix Presets Lightroom Plugin

yes indeed, but a search bar (like the one in the library module to look for folders) would be a faster and better solution.
