Presets are missing

WHAT'S GOING ON?

I just opened LRc, and it turns out I've lost everything. All the presets I've been working on for years are gone. I can't even add photos to the program.

Adobe, what's wrong with you lately? You've been making so many mistakes recently! How am I supposed to recover years of my work now?

Don't panic. Lightroom Classic works fine for almost all people, so there must be an issue on your computer. First things first. What type of Mac do you use, what version of MacOS and what version of Lightroom Classic? Is it possible that you installed Lightroom and opened that, instead of Lightroom Classic? Please post some screenshots that illustrate the problem. Do not attach these to your message, but embed them please using this button:

You say "I can't even add photos to the program". What does (not) happen if you try? Do you see any existing photos? If not, then most likely Lightroom Classic created a new catalog instead of using the old one. A catalog without images does not show presets either, so that may explain that part too.

used macbook pro m1, latest OS software.
A week ago everything was there, LRc worked correctly.
Now I launched LRc (yes the actual program) and suddenly all my presets disappeared, and the program does not want to import directories that I have not touched for years.

I asked you to embed your screenshots, not to attach them! I also asked you: Do you see any existing photos?

Your screenshot does not show anything. No presets, no history, no collections. That suggests this may be a new catalog, like I already mentioned (although that does not explain why you can't import old photos). If this is not a new catalog, then it is logical that you cannot import old photos. They are already in the catalog. You could start by resetting the preferences to see if that helps: https://www.lightroomqueen.com/how-do-i-reset-lightrooms-preferences/

Is this a new catalog, or perhaps an upgraded catalog?

Some of us cannot (or will) open file attachments. However, since it has been previously requested you not attach files, but to use the "Insert Photos" icon, please know that you should be wise to use the "Insert Photos" icon to include screen captures in your reply; you will get faster replies and possibly more replies.

Perhaps instead of getting cross with people who attach files using the very obvious image where it says to 'attach' files, this option should be removed from your reply options!Screenshot 2024-12-08 080631.png

As we are forum users like you, not the programmers of this forum nor the administrator of this forum, we cannot do that. And the possibility to attach files is still needed, because not every file type can be embedded. So all we can do is ask you not to attach images but to embed them. I ask this not because I cannot open attachments, but because looking at them is tedious as you can only view them one by one and you cannot read what has been written about that attachment at the same time as looking at it.

Now back to the problem?...

Thank you for your very sensible explanation Johan, and apologies to the OP for the sidetrack!  Just expressing my frustration because LrC is not 'working fine' for me!  I do hope you can help the OP.
