presets missing after catalog update

I realize there are probably a million posts on this topic, I've looked through a few already on this site. I'm a novice user, I've never backed thigs up. Today, I just got back to using Lightroom classic after several months and it updated the catalog. Now my presets are missing. I tried searching through the Lightroom files manually to find the presets, nothing there except for the defaults.

This is extremely frustrating because I've been using those presets for years.

Were you, perhaps, storing presets with catalog? That is an option you would have chosen to change as that us not the default nor the recommended.

You know what, I think I made a mistake. I just remembered that my computer was at the shop a few months ago and they probably wiped everything. Sadly, I'll have to start new presets.
