Previews not updating after edit on Photoshop

Hi guys, I was wondering if someone here could help me with this mini headache.

I have an issue that when I edit photos from

lightroom classic on photoshop cc and saved back, the previews on Lightroom cc mobile doesn't update. On LR classic they are fine, but not on mobile.

To make it more clear, this is my workflow:

upload photos to Lightroom classic > creat collections and sync (with smart previews)  to Lightroom CC / mobile > on Lightroom classic I do "edit image in photoshop 2020" > finished editing on PS 2020 and saved back.

On lightroom classic the previews are updated nicely, however on Lightroom CC mobile the new previews doesn't update. The old one remains.

I have tried to delete smart preview and then creat them again via library but nothing.

the only work around it's to delete the collection (or sync) > delete smart previews > creat smart previews > creat collection and sync over and over again everytime I edit in photoshop.

I mean, it's a complete nightmare 😞

Does anyone have this issue?
thank you in advance and sorry for my English 🙂

Do you use 'Edit in Potoshop' while you are in the synced collection? If you are not in the synced collection, then the returned Photoshop image will not be added to the synced collection and so you will still only have the original online.

Hello Leonel,

Not sure if you found the solution or not, but I came accross the same issue and I found the solution eventulally.

When you hit "Edit in Photoshop" and edit your picture make sure that you save the RAW file with the original file name. Photoshop/Lightroom often adds "-Edit" at the end of your file name (See image 1 below).

If the file name stays the same Lightroom will add a version to the original file and stack them together, so you will be able to see the Original file and the edited. (See image 2).

Hope this helped.

Please show a screenshot of Lightroom Classic (your entire screen, don't cut off anything), showing the selected image just before you do 'Edit in Photoshop'. Then show a second screenshot of the result (in Lightroom Classic) after you have done editing in Photoshop.

Heyyy!

well... well... well... Lightroom decided to make me look like a fool this time 🙂

while doing the screenshots, it actually worked! Just took awhile to synch. Very happy now.

sorry for making you waste more time on this. And again thank you so so much for your help.

Hi Thomas,

Thank you for the idea. However, today I was so done with that mess that I decided to reach out to Adobe and see if we can find a solution.

After a long 3 to 4 hours with them on the chat. I have followed up to show them my workflow which is:

- Import images to Lightroom Classic >

-Create A collection to sync with Lightroom CC (I do not save my originals in the Creative Cloud) >

-Once its all Sync > I go to collection (on lightroom classic) and click "Edit In photoshop" > Edit and save back

The problem I was having is that the previous doesn't update on lightroom CC/ Mobile / Web, just on the Lightroom Classic.

We found out that the issue is that Lightroom Classic builds/syncs a preview on the collection, and once you edit on photoshop, a new preview should be created, but it isn't syncing.

So the trick is:

- Lightroom Classic > go to Sync Collection and Photo > Edit in Photoshop

-Once you finish editing the image > save the image back as usual

- On the collection, you will see the preview has updated correctly... what you need to do, if it's not updated on the mobile and CC version is to > Right-Click the image > Metadata > Save Metadata

-Once Metadata is save > right-click again > metadata > read Metadata

And the new preview will be correctly synced 😄

Just tried it with the supervisor on the phone and it worked. Have attached an image in case.

Sorry for the long explanation haha wanted to make it as clear as possible. Hope it works for you.

hahaha glad It could help.

Also, forgot one important step. Discard the smart previous from the collection FIRST, then do the steps mentioned before.

Just tested it now and it worked perfectly.

Hope it works for you too.

Hi Johan!

thank you so much for this fast reply.

and no 😞 I do "edit in photoshop" from the "album" and not from sync collection.

gonna try your advice and see if that solves my lil workflow nightmare.

Will let you know ASAP. Thank you again!
