Problem when recovering lrcat (windows 10)

RunningWindows 10. Messed up my catalog and need to fall back. Current messy catalog is 12/28, previous catalog is 12/14. When trying to load 12/14 got "Lightroom cannot use the catalog named

Lightroom Catalog-2-2-v12 because it is not writable and cannot be opened". Get the ssame message for 12/28 when trying to open it from saved file directly but I can open Lightroom normally and it will open.

Files are not marked read only.  Most items I have searched relate to Mac.

Sort of at a standstill here. Any ideas?

Thanks to both of you for your input. Still had probs so contacted. support. They copied the catalog I needed to another location, then opened LR from that location. Came right up. Backed up to my normal location and started LR again. All OK. Must have been some weird permissions problem!

Press and hold the Alt (Win) / option (macOS) key while launching Lightroom Classic. In the Select Catalog dialog box, click Create a New Catalog and then try to import the corrupt catalog. Try to open backup catalogs. For more information, see Restore a backup catalog.

Was that backup via LrC?

Such a backup needs to:

  1. Be copied to the desired folder, desired hard drive.
  2. Be unzipped
