Problem with masking objects

When I create a mask and pick "object," then identify the object using either the brush or rectangle, I get random blotches that have nothing to do with anything in the photo. Subject masking works fine. I've tried a lot of things already: updating LR to 15.0, reinstalling it, deleting the cache file, creating a new catalog and experimenting with a photo in that, resetting preferences, etc.  ChatGPT says I'm supposed to get a message that it's downloading AI files and I haven't seen that. Nor do I see the files in the Cache folder that it says should be there.

If I Google on this driver, I find it is two years old. No doubt that's your problem.

1. Please post a full-resolution screenshot (not a phone pic) of the entire LR window showing the problem.

 

2. Do the LR menu command Help > System Info and copy/paste the entire contents here so we can see exactly which versions of hardware and software LR thinks you're running and important LR options that are set.

 

3. Ignore AI bots like ChatGPT -- they wrong much (most?) of the time about detailed LR technical issues.

Thanks for the quick response! 
Here's the screen. I deliberately picked an image with clear boundaries between the object and background. 

I drew a rectangle around the flower on the right. Here's the resulting mask:  

Notice how the mask seems to have a box around it -- much larger than the one I drew, which only surrounded the flower. Actually I seem to get a different mask each time I try it.
