hello,

since last PS update, when i try to open single image or images as layers from LRC (v 14.2) to PS (v 26.5) ,

PS opens but not the files from LRC,

i guess it's a bug from PS or LRC,

can you please tell me how o fix it?

Thanks

This problem typically manifests when the Uninstall of any version of Photoshop is the last Photoshop Install/Reinstall operation performed.  If the last whole-app operation is an install or a reinstall, it typically cures the issue. The Photoshop team is aware of the issue

It normally happens to customers who have more than one version of Photoshop installed or are running the current version alongside a Photoshop Beta version.

If you encounter an issue where PS will not launch on an "Edit in…" operation, installing or reinstalling the latest version of PS should correct the situation.

If you continue to see a different issue where PS launches on a Lightroom, "Edit In…" operation, but no image appears, that usually means your Photoshop Application has a bad preference file and needs to have its preferences reset.

UPDATE (04/09/2025)

If after uninstalling/reinstalling, installing, or resetting the preferences, you still have this issue, the team has asked for a copy of a specific file:

  • Mac location: /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Startup Scripts CC/Adobe Photoshop/photoshop_v2025.jsx
  • Win location: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Startup Scripts CC\Adobe Photoshop\photoshop_v2025.jsx

Copy the file, notify us in this thread and be prepared to share it.

Thanks!

I know this subject has been posted several times on this forum but it is an issue on my new Mac Mini that I just cannot resolve and so I am reaching out for someone to help.

When I try to open a RAW file from Lightroom Classic (LrC) in to Photoshop 2025 v26.4.1 it will open the Photoshop app but will not actually open the image. However if I locate the RAW file in the Finder and double click on it, the file will open in Adobe Camera RAW.

It also appears to affect JPG and PSD files as well, as it will open a file when I select the "Edit Original" option in the pop up dialog box but refuses to open the file when I choose the "Edit a copy with Lightroom Adjustments" option.

I even went to some considerable effort to format my Mac Mini M4 and reinstall everything in the hope it would resolve the situation but no luck. I also uninstalled and reinstalled Photoshop as suggested in other posts but once again this has failed to resolve the problem.

I really need the integration with LrC and Ps to work for my workflow.

Please help.

David

Hey, @Printdevil. Thanks for posting the details. You've already tried a series of steps.

You can try these steps to set up or recreate the link between Lightroom Classic & Photoshop 2025.

  • Reset Lightroom Classic following the second (manual) method from this article: https://adobe.ly/4fOPxm4
  • Uninstall Photoshop & Lightroom Classic and then install again.
  • Before launching both of the apps, ensure Lightroom Classic & Photoshop have the required permissions on the macOS: https://adobe.ly/4amzwQg
  • You can try launching Photoshop first, then Lightroom Classic & check if it's right.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks!

I've the latest version of lightroom as well as photoshop and before the minor update the systems were working smooth. I was able to bring photos directly into photoshop and start working. but now I cannot do the same using the edit in feature. The moment I access it, it opens photoshop but nothing happens. It fails to bring the photo over to this software.

The usual fix for this is to reinstall LrC. Have you tried this?

since the latest updates from photoshop and photoshop beta which i did today i cannot get the images to photoshop (and/or beta version). with the shortcut only photoshop beta gets open (but no file transeferred) . If i try to use the task list photoshop is not listed (only beta version).

This worked for me:

Uninstall both versions of Photoshop beta / current working build.

Reinstall the older version of PS 26.4.1

I didn't reinstall the beta...

My workflow for photo processing is to do most of my editing in LRC.  If further work is required (eg, blending images for focus stacking or compositing, or using generative expand) I transfer the LR-edited file (or files) to PS via the "Edit in..." command.  Until a few days ago, this workflow operated seamlessly.   But starting a couple of days ago, something has gone horribly wrong.

First, I could still send the LR-edited Raw file to PS through the "edit in" command.  But once I had done whatever I needed to do in PS, and I saved the PS-edited file as a tiff and closed PS, the PS-edited file would no longer return to LRC.   And today I discovered that the situation has deteriorated further:  now, if I use the usual "Edit in..." command, the LR-edited file will no longer open up in PS at all.  These problems occur whether I am trying to use the Beta or regular version of PS.

I am using the latest versions of LRC, PS, and PS Beta on a Mac Studio..  I am not aware of having made any recent changes to my settings or preferences in LRC, PS or my Mac.

Any solutions?

Thanks in anticipation.

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.

I've been round tripping from Lightroom Classic to Photoshop for years. Yesterday in the middle of a project LRc stopped asking if I wanted to send a copy (Sony ARW copy as tiff and send is what usually do) and now opens PS but not the file. I can export as DNG, open in PS and then import psd. Both PS and LRc up to date. The only thing I get from Adobe search is uninstall and reinstall LRC.  Doesn't make sense.  I did reboot my computer and that didn't help.

it's not you. There are half a dozen threats on this issue within the last few hours.

work around which really sucks is to command or control + X to open the image as a smart object. However, the file is saved to the folder, but does not show up in Lightroom

at some point today. Adobe will notice these threads and combined them.

Hey @jwkiker

Can you try uninstalling and installing both apps, this is the first thing we usually try in this case. Also, what version of Lightroom Classic and Photoshop are you using?

Lightroom Classic (14.2; Windows 11) using Edit In would open Photoshop (2025 or beta) and transfer the image(s); after modifications in Photoshop, saving/closing would save and return the  modified image to Lightroom.  Last used this process successfully on Wednesday.  Yesterday (Thursday) and currently, Lightroom will open Photoshop (either 2025 or beta) but does not transfer the image.  I did manage to transfer one image using Open as smart layer, but after modifying it was unable to save/close (generated an error message with loss of modifications).  Lightroom successfully performs the birectional data transfers using Edit In with at least two non-Photoshop applications.  I think there were some recent Photoshop updates?  Suggestions?

Same here... However an Opened Smart objects don't save back to the Lightroom Catalog. the file is saved to the folder on the my Mac but doesn't register with Lightroom. I'm pretty sure the issue isn't with Lightroom it's with Photoshop v 26.5 which I udated to 3 days ago. Just as an FYI the error in Photoshop is a "Error 21: undefined is not an object. Line 1 ->"

I've tried Creating a new Cartilage / Resetting Preferences on the new Catalogue / uninstalling both applications. The only thing I haven't tried is downgrading Photoshop. - CES

Uninstall both, then first install Photoshop and then Lightroom Classic. That usually fixes it.
