Question

ProCamera file naming convention

I am asking this question in this forum because google has failed me as has any user manual or FAQ’s at PoCamera’s website. And, since this iPhone camera app produces raw files, I assume some of the editing is done in Lightroom. My question is simple. Can you explain the file name that comes out of the ProCamera app? Clearly the filename prefix is the date (year-month-day) but for the life of me I cannot figure out the logic of the remaining portion of the name.

Whatever names the camera generates, rename the files in Lightroom using a naming convention that follows good practice. See https://www.dpbestflow.org/file-management/file-naming  for some guidelines.

I think I am pretty much following that article's guidelines. However, I received the specific instructions for file naming from Peter Krogh's The DAM Book Guide to Organizing Your Photos with Lightroom 5.

Perfect! FWIW Peter was one of the driving forces behind that site and I was a tech editor for the DAM book

    Hi mrdavie99,

It would be worth leaving the a note for support on the app manufacturer's website: Support - ProCamera + HDR - Turn your iPhone into a powerful digital camera

They are the best people to answer your  query in detail. However, our experts here surely so have many suggestions

    Thanks,

    Akash

Actually, I did leave a support question on the manufacturer's site and they replied. I save images shot with ProCamera in their proprietary "Lightbox" folder inside the app. I can upload them later directly to Lightroom. Based on the reply from manufacturer, the file naming sequence is thus:

"yyyy-mm-dd_hh-mm-ss+0100." The last part of that name is NOT a sequence; the last for digits are repeated and have no meaning for me. Typically, on camera import I rename files to "[my initials]_yyyymmdd_[camera's assigned photo number]. I have created a custom name called ProCamera, utilize the time stamp as the image number. Managing smartphone image names in Lightroom is a little more complicated than dedicated digital cameras images. Lightroom's renaming tool helps a LOT.
