Re-importing original DNG file back into Lightroom

I have an unaltered DNG file that I want to re-import into Lightroom.

When I go to copy the file it is converting the file to the manipulated/altered file that still currently exists in a different subfolder.

I have tried renaming the file with a *.RAW extension and not converting it to a DNG file and placing it in a different subfolder but it is still getting converted to the altered version of the photo.

The altered photo no longer has a history to it since I did some minor changes in Photoshop.

Any help on how to get around this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Why don't you just use the file that exists in another folder? You can create a virtual copy, reset all the settings, and have essentially the unedited DNG.

Consider also, that if you edited a DNG file in Photoshop Adobe Camera Raw then the ACR edits are embedded in the DNG file. Importing into Lightroom will show these ACR edits.

A [Reset] in the Lightroom develop module (or [Reset All] in the Library Basic panel) will reset the DNG back to OOC original.

Any edits made by ACR (or saving metadata to DNG in Lightroom) embeds the edits into the DNG file and any Adobe programs will then show the edits.

Proprietary camera files (NEF, CR2, etc) save the edits as a sidecar XMP file that appears separate to the RAW.

Regards. My System: Windows-11, Lightroom-Classic 15.1.1, Photoshop 27.3.1, ACR 18.1.1, Lightroom 9.0, Lr-iOS 10.4.0, Bridge 16.0.2 .
