Repeated requests for "Refining Previews for HDR"

I am getting repeated requests for "Refining Previews for HDR" whenever I begin editing photos in HDR for Lightroom Classic. Based on the number of previews its refining, it looks like its going through every HDR photo in my library. The process completes each time, but it does take a long time and consumes quite a bit of CPU.

Is there any way we can understand what is triggering these requests and why it needs to do this process over and over again, seemingly randomly? Is there any way to turn this off, or at least explain what is happening?

Lightroom Classic Version 14.0.1

MacOS Sequoia 15.1

M4 MacBookPro (M4Pro Chip)

Hey, @TDC3000. Thanks for sharing the details. I'll need more information to help you figure this out. Please share the system information from Lightroom Help > System info > Copy and paste into a text document > Upload and attach here.

Where is the catalog stored? On the internal or external drive?

Try these suggestions:

1 - As a test, create a new catalog from File > New Catalog & check if the issue exists.

2 - If the issue does not exist in the test catalog, follow the steps here to rebuild the preview database for the previous/original catalog: https://adobe.ly/4eJ4og6

Let me know how it goes. Thanks!

@Sameer K Thanks for the quick response.

1. System file attached

2. I skipped the creation of a new catalog and went ahead and rebuilt the preview database (why not) and the "Refining Previews for HDR" popped up again within a minute or two.  I agreed to the rebuild which it did successfully.

The question at this point is how soon will it be before this popup happens again, I'll keep watching.
