Reset Lightroom Classic to default

Question

I tried importing a preset and had no luck, saw a tutorial how to add it to the "profile" which worked but could never get it to be the default when importing photos.  Went to preferences - presets - restore local adjustment presets; and now all the original settings for like camera settings or adobe color profiles aren't available.  Any ideas?  I'm totally lost.

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.
