Seeking Guidance for Lightroom Sync and Storage Management as a Digital Nomad Amateur Photographer
Hello Adobe community,
I hope this message finds you well. I've been exploring the forum and noticed similar questions about Lightroom workflows, but many responses seem geared towards professional photographers. As an amateur with the unique challenge of being a digital nomad, I'm seeking your guidance on a few aspects of my Lightroom setup.
Workflow Overview:
- I use the Photography plan (20GB) for $9.99/month with Lightroom Classic.
- My workflow involves transferring photos from my camera's external hard drive to my Mac's local hard drive.
- I catalog these photos into a "Pictures" folder on my Mac, with sub-folders for each set.
- Photos are imported into Lightroom from the sub-folder on my Mac, creating a new catalog.
- The newly imported photos are then synced in the cloud via the Photography plan, which includes 20GB of cloud storage.
Current Concerns:
- My Mac's "Pictures" folder is 114GB, while the space occupied in the Lightroom cloud is only 3.7GB.
- I've noticed a "Mobile Downloads.lrdata" folder using 10GB, even though I don't use Lightroom on mobile or tablet.
Questions:
- Given my amateur status and the digital nomad lifestyle, is my Lightroom workflow on the right track, or do you have recommendations for improvements?
- Am I inadvertently using more space than necessary on my Mac with the current setup?
- Considering my circumstances, should I manually create a second copy on an external drive or another cloud for added security?
- As someone with a basic photography workflow, how can I ensure the security and accessibility of my photos, especially in the event of losing my Mac?
Your insights and advice will be immensely valuable as I navigate the balance between simplicity and security in my photography journey.
Thank you for your time and expertise!
Vincenzo
