Hello,
in the latest version of Lightroom Classic, merging of original files and files de-noised by AI has appeared. However, I store the two versions separately, on different storage and with different compression. How can I now store the DNG only in the enhanced version?

Pleasee specify the exact version of Lightroom Classic that you're referring to.

I went back to the previous version, but according to CC Desktop it is version 14.4. The merge is also announced in the “What's New” listing, see screenshot.
If a more accurate version number is needed, I can upgrade again.

By @Jana Jarosu
What do you mean exactly with this? Do you like only stored the denoised DMG in the catalog?
If yes, the easiest way is to delete the original file from the catalog.
If I'm wrong, please describe your workflow more detailed.

This is a new AI enhancement feature in version 14.4, see screenshot above (unfortunately it's not listed on the Adobe website yet, there are only notes for version 14.3). Until version 14.3, AI de-noising was done by creating a separate file in the same directory, now the enhanced version is now saved in the same DNG file, which is then twice the size. It seems that in 14.4 it is no longer possible to save separate DNGs in the original and enhanced versions, but maybe I missed something.
For example, a description of the new feature is here: https://1url.cz/8JHMS (Facebook)

LrC 14.4 no longer creates an Enhanced DNG file when Denoise, Raw Details or Super Resolution is used. These edits are now treated in the same as any other edit you apply to a photo (i.e. stored in the catalog and saved into an XMP sidecar file if you wish).

Yeah, that's what I found out. My question is, is there any way to separate it now? The resulting DNG is now twice the size and I need to archive them separately with different compression settings. If not, it would be a good idea to add this option to the options when exporting the DNG.

There is no resulting DNG. As of 14.4, that behaviour is gone.
You can export the edited original file as a DNG, if that's what you want/need.

Save the photo as a DNG. Check the size. Apply AI enhancements to it. Press Ctrl+S. Check the size again. You'll see the difference.

That's because the embedded XMP is nearly 40MB. If you export the file using 'Lossy' Compression then the DNG will be much smaller.

Yes, but it's still say 16MB per file instead of 8MB per file. And if there are 100 files, that's already 800MB taken up unnecessarily.

PS: You don't have to explain the principle to me. I'm just trying to figure out how to separate it. And if it can't be separated, I want to let Adobe know that it would be a good idea to allow data separation at least for archiving. Maybe when exporting.

Thanks, I'll look into it.
