Question

Slow applying metadata updates

I have seen posts about the windows version, but I am echoing that on the Mac (m1 max) that Lightroom Classic 13.3 has become incredibly, painfully, awfully, terribly slow. Its gotten to the point of being frustratingly unusable. This seems to affect every aspect of using it from applying metadata updates to moving through pictures. Other than downgrading back to the old version (if possible?) has anyone found any other solutions?

I have just upgraded (!) to 13.3 from 12, and after 9 days the sync update finished and I'm trying to edit photos. It's taking more than 20 seconds for the colour flag to be set when I type '6'.  This is on a 2022 M2 Max Macbook Pro running Sonoma 14.4.1. This is simply unacceptable.

I have a 2019 MacBook and over the past two weeks (since 13.3 update) it's gotten so bad I can't even use LRc and I have several jobs pending.  It just took me 40 hours to do a job that should have taken me 6 hours.  Every time I move a slider in the Develop panel it takes 2-5 seconds to actually show the change.  Brutal.  I will be getting a new computer asap but I see a lot of people with newer computers having similar complaints.

@Birddogs, please do the LR menu command Help > System Info and copy/paste the entire contents here so we can see exactly which versions of hardware and software LR thinks you're running and important LR options that are set.

same here it's slower exporting on M1 Pro and sonoma 14.5

I am seeing the exact same issue with a client M1 Macbook. As soon as we updated to 13.3 everything ground to a painfully slow halt.

OS is already 14.5 so that didn't help. There is clearly a compatibility issue with the M1 Macbooks and LrC 13.3

13.3 has been a disaster for me. An edit of a small shoot that should have taken 20 minutes turned into 3 hours.

writing metadata, generation previews turned into a crawl. Caption text is missing (probably because writing metadata is slow). I have a M1 iMac with 16 GB RAM. Contacted Adobe, I downloaded 13.3.1 but it does not fix the issues. Adobe customer rep suggested to get full access to my computer. Been using LRC since the first beta. Never and update has been so broken. I only have the catalog for 13.0. I reverted to that with some minor improvement. It is extremely frustrating.

Updating the OS (to Sonoma 14.5 in my case) did the trick for me.

I second this... M1 Max here. Importing photos that are in a folder on the SSD and building smart previews is incredibly slow.

Are you syncing with the LR cloud?  If so, pause it and see if that improves the situation.
