The past couple of weeks, Lighroom Classic has been so slow to upload pics, change to a different picture, and do everything with editing. I'm on a 2021 Mac with M1 chip. At first, I thought my storage was running out but my storage is just fine. I need HELP PLZ!!! I have 2 photo shoots to edit and 1 coming up this weekend. I literally can't edit efficiently, it's WAY TOO SLOW.

Hi,

We’d like to gather a bit more information to help investigate this issue:

1. System Info:
Could you please share your Lightroom System Info?
(Lightroom → Help → System Info)

2. Disable Auto XMP Writing:
Please uncheck “Automatically write changes into XMP” to see if it improves performance:
(Catalog Settings → Metadata → Automatically write changes to XMP

3. Purge ACR Cache:
Try purging the ACR cache and restarting your system:
(Preferences → Performance → Camera Raw Cache Settings → Purge

4. New Catalog Test:
Do you experience the same slowness when working with a brand-new catalog?

5. GPU Status:
Please check the GPU status under:
(Preferences → Performance → GPU). You can toggle between Auto and Off to see if that makes any difference

6. Reset Preferences:
Several users have seen performance improvements after resetting Lightroom preferences. You can try this once:
(Preferences → General → Hold Alt and click Reset Preferences, then relaunch Lightroom)

7.Remove Old Presets:
A few users have reported better performance after removing or temporarily backing up older presets.
Go to:
/Users/xxxx/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CameraRaw/
Rename the folders Settings and ImportedSettings to Settings_bkp and ImportedSettings_bkp.
This will remove all user-created and imported presets from Lightroom — don’t worry, your presets are still safely stored in the renamed folders and can be re-imported anytime.
After doing this, collapse the Presets panel in the Develop module and check if performance improves.

Thanks,

Arjun

  • Were any of your images being synced to the cloud in Lightroom? If yes, please try disabling sync and check if that helps.

  • What is the size of your catalog on disk?

  • Did any of the images have AI-based edits applied (such as Denoise, Super Resolution, Reflection Removal, People Removal, etc.)?

  • Could you share the lrc_console.log file located at:
    /Users/xxxx/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom/

  • Please share the specific workflows where you’re experiencing slowness.

  • A short screen recording of the workflow where you notice the slowness would also be very helpful.
