Question

Slow using brushes and healing

I have been using LRC for over 2 years, updating as they come out.  But despite my upgrading my laptop, LRC gets so bogged down before just completely freezing up.  I just have to keep restarting it.  I though it was when I use the brush tool (which makes it even worse), but it happens when I use the bandaid or create other local masks. I have read other posts about slowness and tried suggested revisions to no avail.

I am PC based with a Microsoft Book 3 laptop.  It has 32.0 GB (31.6 GB usable) of RAM, 475 GB sorage on the hard drive, of which 275 GB used.  I have a single catalog with 10,000 images although my files are large (average runs about 8500x5700 as my camera has 48 megapixels).  The catalog is on my hard drive, the images are stored on an external hard drive.  I have my catalog cache set to 40.0.

There must be some other setting I don't have right.  Can anyone help?

Thank you!

Mandy

You didn't mention which CPU you have. It looks like the cheapest models with i5 CPU are barely able to run Notepad.

I see thst this is probably the quad-core 10th gen intel® coretm i5-1035g7 processor. Not sure if 1.30 GHz is correct, Intel website states 1.20. perhaps using turbo mode will help?

Check your laptops drivers, not just the video or graphics driver, but all those various drivers such as chipset, LAN, WiFi, SATA, Audio, etc. This via the manufactures support pages (hopefully they have a utility for this).

I had an impression that this Surface Book is new, new computers may or may not have all the various drivers up to date.  Often members point to the GPU driver as an issue, but the motherboard drivers can also be an issue if not up to date. New computers might come with early versions of those drivers, they may have problems. These problems can be stomped on by LrC, but will probably also show up as odd issues when just running the computer doing mundane tasks. Does your mouse freeze up? Does a simple program like a word processor freeze up for a bit, but not crash., etc.
