Question

sony 24mm built in lens profile distorts image

Hi,

When uploading photos that were taken with my Sony 24mm FE 2.8 The automatic lens profile that is applied does not correct any distortion, if anything it appears to make it much worse it also makes the image much darker. When I click remove chromatic aberration, and enable profile corrections, nothing happens. I'm having to adjust it all manually which isn't always successful.

Any advice?  I am not on the most recent version as I have an old mac, however, I do have the upgraded version on my laptop and I have the same issue.

Ok, The Sony FE 2.4mm F2.4 does have an Adobe Lens profile. I downloaded a sample raw file, and imported. The image was imported just fine in LrC 10.3 and the built-in Chromatic Aberation profile and the Adobe lens profile gets applied automatically, see the screen capture. See the screen capture.

If you are referring to the lens in the list below then the profile appears to be added in June 2021, LrC 10.3.

Just some comments, I believe the “built-in” should only appears if you import a raw file. If the image is jpeg from the camera the image will have the profile, which is created by Sony, will be baked into the jpeg.

If there is a built-in profile it's unlike that Adobe would create a specific profile. I would be surprised if a 24mm f 2.8 lens prime lens actually needs distortion correction. If it was deemed necessary by the manufacturer it would have been included in the built-in profile. Just my thoughts.

You are probably shooting and importing JPEG files. Most of the Sony lenses including the 24mm FE 2.8 only have lens profiles for raw files inside LrC. JPEG files can be corrected using the in-camera settings as shown at the below link.

The built-in lens profile for that lens probably only corrects chromatic aberrations. Check 'Enable Profile Corrections and select the lens profile that matches your lens. Then change the Setup dropdown from 'Custom' to 'Default' so that it will apply this lens profile on all future file imports shot with this lens.

I can't seem to find my lens on the list? I'm sure its not even on my laptop with the updated version of lightroom. I have done this to one that corrects it the best though, thank you.

Check whether the indicator for the profile being automatically applied is present (see below screenshot below). If it is, then the profile is already applied.

Right okay, yes that is the case, but that doesn't explain why its so distorted and dark?

Please advise your Camera Model number, and your version number of Lightroom and your Operating System.
