Help! Who knows why I cannot import raw files from this (new) camera into LR ?
What can I do to resolve this problem? I really like to work with raw files.. and I like to work with LR to edit...
kind regard, Kim
The RX100 VI isn't supported yet. Hopefully, with in the next couple of months.
See list of supported cameras and version of Camera raw / Lightroom when support was first introduced.

Is there a Sony tool to use in the meantime to process these images? I'm new to Sony and never had this problem with Canon files.

I honestly don't know what Sony offers. But I wonder why so many are afraid to shoot JPEG images. JPEG technology has improved significantly in recent times. And until there is support in Lightroom you can become familiar with your camera by taking some images in JPEG mode. It seems to me that so many are afraid they will pollute their camera if they take a few JPEG images. Granted, I prefer shooting in raw with my Nikon. But I've shot JPEG a few times this summer and in "most" instances it's difficult to tell the difference. I understand the frustration of not having support for the raw images. But until there is support, you can at least become familiar with what the camera is capable of doing by shooting JPEG. Really, it isn't going to hurt the camera, or Lightroom, or your computer.

Thanks, Jim! I set the camera to shoot Raw + jpeg. You're right that in many cases, jpegs are just as good, even superior in appearance, to Raw files. I just like the flexibility of Raw in post production.

The reason I use Lightroom is to process raw images. If I mainly used JPG, I wouldn't need Lightroom. As a subscriber, I expect Adobe to step up and move faster with releases.

You're talking like another person who purchased a brand-new camera that isn't yet supported, and is understandably impatient. You aren't the first one to face this, and you won't be the last. You aren't a victim, you aren't the only one who has ever had this problem. I think one of the Canon models was the last one to raise so many complaints from disgruntled users. There's nothing you can do about it, and there's nothing anyone here on the forum can do about it. When the update is ready it will be released. You can blame Adobe all you want, but it won't do any good. When the release is ready it will be released. If you want to be a victim, then you are a victim. Not much else anyone can do or say.

You're calling me a victim? There is no need for personal attacks. The fact is that the camera was released to media 2 months ago and released for sale about a month ago in the US. Consumers need to let Adobe know that this is something they are waiting for. This seems to be the best place to register my opinion that they need to be faster with the updates, especially if I'm paying for a monthly subscription. As far as what I or anyone else can do is move on.

No, I don't think so. You seem to be the one who is inferring that you are the victim. What you don't seem to understand is that camera manufacturers don't coordinate with Adobe. They don't care whether or not Lightroom supports their camera. Lightroom is of no concern to them. All they want to do is sell their camera. What you do with their camera, and how you use it is up to you. The camera manufacturers don't monitor the Adobe release cycle. They don't care whether or not Lightroom supports their camera. It isn't any concern to them in any way. If they release the camera right after a Lightroom update has been released, and you purchase the camera right at that point, then you have to wait for up to three months until the next update is released. This has happened to Canon users before. It has happened to Nikon users before. And they have been just as angry and impatient as you have been, blaming Adobe just as you have been doing. But there's nothing anyone can do. Adobe will release the next update when it's ready, and it will "probably" support your camera model. But if it doesn't then you'll have to wait another release cycle. And it will be Adobe's fault again, according to you. Unfortunately, there will be nothing that you or Adobe will be able to do about it.
Maybe the thing to do is, instead of just waiting for Lightroom, set the camera to take both JPEG and raw and store the raw images until Lightroom is updated and see what you can do with the JPEG images in the meantime. You can do quite a bit with JPEG images in Lightroom, and you can learn a lot about your camera in the process. I know, it isn't what you want. But why just wait and fret about it? It isn't going to make Adobe release the update any sooner.

I never mentioned being a victim nor do I think there is a victim anywhere in this situation. If there were a victim, there should be compassion and not this shaming that seems to be going on. Nevertheless, I'd rather not sit idly by and accept the speed at which Adobe is doing things, I'm asking that Adobe should move faster. Maybe they should figure out how to work with the manufacturers. Maybe they can put more resources on getting the work done. Maybe they can separate updates to raw support versus overall releases. Maybe they can communicate clearly when the new files will be supported. Any of these things could help consumers. Saying there is nothing that can be done is unacceptable. I was hoping this was a forum would advocate for users but I was wrong. Sorry to have bothered all of you here. I will not be posting in the future and Adobe has lost me a customer going forward.

I'm just curious, since Adobe is apparently so slow about this, which company are you switching to that provides raw support for these cameras faster? If this is really an Adobe problem, RX100 VI support should be readily available today from all the companies who have better relationships with camera manufacturers, so it would be good to know who those are.

I think it is possible that a number of applications, including Luminar, use ACR as their RAW converter "engine". When Adobe releases the next update for ACR I will look for an update for Luminar 2018... but will continue to use Lightroom.

If I'm not mistaken, Adobe doesn't license ACR to other companies. But you may be thinking of the open source dcraw library that many companies use for raw decoding. Even Adobe uses parts of it, but I think Adobe also adds their own processing and profile development on top of that in order to provide support for a new camera.
At this time, the RX100 VI is not yet on the list of cameras supported by dcraw.

You're still running LR CC 2015.14, not LR Classic 7.5. You need to update to LR 7.5 using the desktop Creative Cloud app.

If LR support is important to your photographic workflow then don't buy a camera before it's supported, that's all.

JPEG files are better than they used to be, but probably do not contain as much data to work with as RAW. Here is my solution. I capture RAW+JPEG. I import only the JPEG files, leaving the RAW files on the memory card. I will import some of the RAW files when they become supported. It is kind of tedious because the JPEG files must be individually selected, but it works and there are good results with the JPEGs. If you normally shoot just RAW and now you are shooting JPEG+RAW you may not see the JPEG files when importing. The solution is to open Lightroom Preferences and make sure the "Treat JPEG files next to raw files as separate photos" option is selected.

And by the way, it was just as true for Canon cameras that there was often a gap between camera release and LR support.
