Let's say I select 4 similar images and press the space bar, to scroll through them in large. Now when I decided which image of the 4 I like most, I press a number for the star rating. The problem ist: the new rating is applied to all of the 4 images, not only the one I see in large. This used to be different in previeous versions. And it was better.

It sounds like you've got metadata auto sync enabled. Select more than one photo and ensure the menu item Metadata > Enable Auto Sync is unchecked:
You can also toggle auto sync at the bottom of the right column (when more than one photo is selected).
