Hi all. I have developed images in LR Classic 15.0 and would like to share them with a few people. I'm aware they will need an HDR screen.
It works in both Safari and Chrome if I export as a RAF (Fuji RAW) but the detail is quite poor. Maybe it's using an embedded JPG preview of some sort? So I'm trying to export as another file type.
I've tried AVIF and JPG XL and with each file type I've checked the 'HDR Output' box in the export dialogue.
No joy. Nothing I try shows the HDR image using ether Safari or Chrome.
I saw some of Greg Benz stuff and tried ecpporting as DNG but that didn't work either.
Any ideas? I can do it using Google Photos but it isn't nearly as nice an interface so I'd like to stick to Lightroom Web Gallery if I possibly can.
Thanks in advance.
So, I've done a set of exports and tested them in Safari (26.0.1), Chrome (142.0.7444.60) and also Quick Look on the Mac.
Here are the results:
'Open File' in Safari shows the AVIF and JPG images correctly but not the JPG XL nor the DNG
'Open File' in Chrome shows them all correctly except for the DNG
Quick Look on Mac shows the AVIF and JPG correctly but not the JPG XL. The DNG loads but shows a full, unedited image
Opening the Adobe Gallery online in Chrome, only the DNG shows correctly
Opening the
...So you basically reimport the images into Lightroom cloudy by putting them into an album (which imports them and uploads to the cloud) and share that gallery? You're taking far too many steps but my guess is that you have not enabled the import option to automatically enable hdr for images that are hdr capable. The default is to turn it off which by default strips the hdr from images that can be hdr like avif and jxl. Just check in the develop area in Lightroom cloudy and make sure the hdr butto

Using the Export option in LrC to share a RAW file you would have to select "export original" so what you get is a copy of your original raw file (without any edits you may have applied in LrC).
If your client or friend has access to LrC 15.0 you can explore using "Export as a Catalog and include the Original files. Send the Catalog to them.

Thanks, but these are edited images from a holiday I recently went on, to be shared with other holiday-makers who were with us. They won't have access to anything more than Chrome and maybe an HDR screen or phone

I would simply create a Collection in LrC and sync to Adobe Creative Cloud that will Sync Smart Previews to the Adobe Cloud Storage and you can share with them from there. They can view and there is also an option for them to download copies from there is the wish.
Alternatively you can export higher resolution images from LrC, tiff, jpeg or jpeg xl. Aand share those online so they can copy or download.

I think it might be my fault for not being more specific. Apologies. I can easily export to a web gallery, but no matter what for May I use, they don't display as HDR images.
I've checked the HDR Output box and have tried JPG XL and AVIF

The jpeg file created from the Raw image on export has all the edits applied in LrC are applied including the HDR.
It may not be shown as an HDR image in the Develop module but the edits are applied.
I have checked on my Win system running LrC.
You can do the following test, export the Raw image with the HDR applied and export the jpg xl image to the same folder as the Raw image so that it sits next to the Raw. Then in the Library module grid mode select the jpeg xl image and the Raw and use the Compare so the two image sit side by side, they should match.

Ok I have done some further checks.
I indicated in my last post. "It may not be shown as an HDR image in the Develop module but the edits are applied."
I synced the jpeg xl image to Lightroom on my iPad and the image indicates it is HDR.
See the capture from my iPad.
I do not know if this is a bug in LrC 15.0.
Clearly the HDR is applied to the exported jpeg xl and is not reflected in the Deevelop Module.

I'll try to be a little more clear about what I can and can't acheive:
I can make HDR edits in LR Classic
I can export HDR images in JPG, JPG XL or AVIF and the HDR image shows fine on my Mac in Quick Look mode so I know it is an HDR image
I can upload these images to Google Photos and they show correctly in Chrome as HDR images on my HDR screen
I CANNOT get them to show as HDR images using Adobe Web Gallery. It doesn't recognise them as HDR images.
Do you have an HDR image in an Adobe Web Gallery that shows correctly as an HDR image that you can share and maybe share what settings you used to create the file?

The only other suggestion I have is to use Lightroom Desktop 9.0 so that originals will upload to Adobe Creative Cloud and be available for sharing.
That application is available in your submission.

I am very confused by this post. HDR works perfectly fine from Classic on Lightroom Web gallery if you simply set a collection of HDR images to sync and share that gallery. So DO NOT export. Simply set a collection to sync and make it public and you're set. Note that this will only work correctly in Chrome. Safari gained a small amount of HDR support in the latest operating system but it is very hit and miss and almost never actually works. You will also only see the HDR in Lightroom web galleries if you click on an image to enlarge it also.
Here is an example of a quick gallery I did that to: https://lightroom.adobe.com/shares/cd71fe426d7a45c28ae667ebc2b14c6b It is simply a synced collection straight from the raw images in Classic to the cloud. Again, only works in Chrome and you need to click the images to see the HDR.

@Jao vdL , you indicate there are problems using Safari, is there any problem with Microsoft Edge?

thanks for this. I see you also used dng files for your images. Did you convert them from a camera RAW format? When I export RAF as dng using LR Classic I get an unedited image and there are no options regarding respecting crop, edits or HDR content. My understanding was that I could export a JPG XL or AVIF file to save space

These are just random hdr edited images I have in my catalog. They're likely dng because I denoised them using the old denoise algorithm that generated dng files and some are panorama stitches I see. The point is using the method of uploading to a Lightroom web gallery by simply syncing a collection containing any kind of image retains the hdr automatically. You don't have to do anything special.

Just realized I shared the private link above so replaced with the public link: https://lightroom.adobe.com/shares/cd71fe426d7a45c28ae667ebc2b14c6b Interestingly this actually does work in Safari and gives me HDR.
@DdeGannes Yes just tried and the HDR in Lightroom Web galleries works fine in Edge. Firefox does not show the HDR, but Safari, Chrome, and Edge all do.

Ok, I just couldn't get this to work so instead, I found Zonerama which works well, can disable downloads and shows HDR images correctly. I'll revisit Adobe Web Gallery in the future but for now I give up

What specifically do you mean by "Adobe Web Gallery"?
Do you mean you go into LrC's Web module and export a gallery? Or do you use the sync feature and then share pictures from there? Or some other method?

I mean creating a web gallery using the Collections section in Lightroom Classic and then making it public. I also tried Lightroom CC but that didn't work either.

That's really strange. This is exactly the method I used above and the images show up as hdr in safari, chrome and edge. You just have to click on the images to enlarge them to see the hdr. You won't see the hdr in the grid view. What versions of classic and cloudy are you using? Also what version of the OS?

Yes, I just don't understand why it doesn't work. As I said in my first post, if I simply add Fuji RAF files to a collection, they do show as HDR but the level of detail is quite low.
I've exported in AVIF and JPG XL with both Rec 709 and Rec 2020 colour spaces and, although the images preview correctly on my Mac as HDR images, once they're uploaded to Adobe, they do not.
I'm on the latest version of LR Classic, LR and 26.0.1 on my Mac.
I'm going to upload all version of an image again and I'll share the public link here shortly.
