Tethered vs import - doesn't recognise duplicates

I did a shoot tethering Lightroom to my Canon 1DX.

In the tethering options I made sure I selected the "Filename" as the naming convention for downloaded files.

For technical reasons some files didn't get transferred so I did an import of the memory card.

The import had the option "Don't import suspected duplicates" enabled. However it is not detecting photos downloaded during the tethering as duplicates.

Is this a bug? Or am I doing something wrong?

    As of Lightroom Classic 14.1.1, this appears to still be a bug. I'm using a Sony A1.

     

    The only difference between the .ARW file imported via tether and imported via my SD card is that the latter has "-2" appended to the filename.

    As far as LrC is concerned, different filenames means different files.

    No, that's not it. The -2 is added by the OS when the files are copied to the destination folder, because two files in the same folder cannot have the same name. When the images were considered for import by Lightroom Classic and checked against already imported images, that -2 wasn't present in the file name yet, so that is not the explanation why Lightroom Classic did not recognized them as duplicates.

      This is probably a bug. My guess is that the camera writes the files quicker to the memory card than it transfers to the computer and this causes a slight difference in original file creation time which Lightroom interprets as the files being different.

      That's interesting. I will investigate if the camera and laptop clocks are in sync.

      It's quite likely the laptop is picking the time up from the Internet so that should be correct. However they probably isn't the case for the camera.
