The Lightroom catalog cannot be opened” error message; deleting lock doesn’t work

Hello,

I went into edit some photos yesterday on Lightroom Classic. Part way through the import of new photos, I got an error message that said there was not enough storage on the Mac to complete import. Now, when I attempt to open Lightroom, I get the error message "The Lightroom catalog cannot be opened because another application already has it opened." Lots of advice online says to move the lock file to trash, but that does not work. There are a few "corrupt" files showing. Moving those to trash still doesn't work. What would be the next steps to troubleshoot and gain access to Lightroom? Thank you!

You may have selected the wrong .LOCK file. You need to go to the folder where your exact catalog file is located and find the .LOCK file in there and delete it. Deleting other .LOCK files won't help.

Thank you so much. This is the view when I go to:  users / (my name) / pictures / catalog name. Should the lock file be somewhere else?  Thank you for your time!

Use the search feature in MAC Finder to search for all .LOCK files anywhere on your computer's hard disk. I believe you can delete all of them, I can't imagine how this would hur anything.

When I search for .lock, this is what comes up. If I try to add these files to trash, it will go through the process of asking if I for sure want to delete them etc, but they will not move. They won't delete/move to trash.

I can't see yours (or anybody's) file attachments.

Please from now, use the "Insert Photos" icon to include screen captures in your reply, do NOT attach files.

As @dj_paige wrote goto the the folder where your recent catalog file is locate and search for .lock files.

The appropriate .lock files has the same name as your recent catalog, like this mycatalog.lrcat.lock

Delete this file and try again.

What does this exactly means. Please describe more detailed.

Hi, thanks for your message. There are files showing up as "Corrupt Catalog" as the file name:

Please check which catalog LR is trying to open. Maybe LR tries to open aolder catalog.

Another try is to start LR with another catalog or create a new catalog. Hold the Ctrl-Key while starting LrC. This opens a catalog selection dialog.

First select the appropriate recent catalog and let it check it – note the checkmark "Test integrity of this catalog" to check its integrity. If that doesn't help, try to create a new one and see if this catalog works. If yes, you could then try to import your current catalog into the new one.

If you got an error saying that there is not enough room on your hard drive, then that problem needs to be solved first. Your screen photo (please make proper screenshots and embed these in the message using this button IMG_3514.jpeg rather than attaching them) does not show any corrupted catalog files (and no .lock file either), just a folder with an older corrupted catalog (you can delete that folder). There should not be a problem opening the catalog, but Lightroom may not be able to do so as long as that problem with lack of disk space still exists.

Please, in the future, take a screenshot via your MACOS instead of your camera to show those screens.

The screenshots you sent look like the latter, actually worse, they have little value, they are hard to look at. Sorry, but they are...
