P: LrC v14.1 & later Profile Browser icons of profiles appear very small

Contributor ,

Every time I open a group of profiles in the profile browser, the thumbnails are much smaller than they should be. I prefer to use large thumbnails that should fill the entire width of the side panel. But they only fill about a third of it. I have to select one of the other view modes (Grid or List), and then go back to Large again, then they get the right size. But it's incredibly annoying that this happens every time I open a new group of profiles.

It has been like this for a long time, and a new Mac and new updates to Lightroom have not solved the problem. Am I the only one experiencing this?

Recently the profile browser in LE classic is acting very strange. The thumnail (grig view) is messed up. Thumbnails that run of the page. Showing only what fits in one row instead of wrapping around when a profile set contains many profiles.

Please post a screenshot (a proper screenshot, not a phone picture of the screen, please). Do not attach it, but embed it in the message using this button:EmbedScreenshot.JPG

Maybe this will work. In between my posting and now I created a new catalog which improved the istuation.

The first screen grab shows that the right most thumbnail is partially off the screen.

If click that profile the whole row shifts to the left hiding part of the profile group name andd the arrows to expand/collpse them. I can only move to the left is by clicking a left most thumbnail.

If i adjust the width of the tab it can get worse, even at some point it shows empty spaces instead of the thumbnails.

Thanks

Nabil

Your screenshots seem to show that the panel is getting smaller. Have you tried widening it? Place your cursor on the dividing line between the panel and the main window. It should change, indicating that by holding down the mouse button you can now drag that line to resize the width of the panel. By the way; do you run Lightroom in English or another language?

Yes, I seem to remember that changing the width of the panel the size of the tumbnails changed. Now the size of each thumbnail stays the same and more  or less of them appear per line and always one of them only partially fits on the line.

I can't reproduce this on my Mac. and in fact I always only see two thumbnails per row, not three. If I make the panel wider or narrower, the thumbnails get bigger or smaller and there are limits to both how wide and how narrow I can make the panel. You did not mention whether you use MacOS or Windows and did not answer my question about the language you use in Lightroom. I know there are some glitches with the interface in some non-English languages, but I don't think it is that severe. You could try if resetting the preferences solves this. This is what I see:

I'm running a Mac also (macOS 15.6.1) with English language. I have tried resetting my preferences but it did not solve the problem. Thanks for checking on your sidre. I think I will switch to the list view (just text). Hoping the next LR upgrade gets my system working again. Thanks gain.

What happens if you choose 'Large'? That should give you a single thumbnail per row.

Hi, I just tried large whichI think is working. The reason I say "think" is that the tumbnail large but also cropped. Like cropping the image and showing the center which does not seem right. The profile may be doing unwanted changes to the cropped out portion of the picture.

I doubt that very much. This is an interface glitch. There is no reason to assume that the profile would really apply that crop in any way. By the way: what resolution setting do you use for your monitor?

I'm on a M1 Max chip. I ask again: what resolution setting do you use for your monitor?

1728 x1117 (the default). It can go up to 2056 x 1329

See if setting it to 2056 x 1329 pixels solves the problem. Your current settings are not below specs, but 1920 x 1080 is recommended.

I tried your recommendation but like everything else it did not fix the issue. Its very strange in that it started happening just suddenly. I had not made any system changes or installed new programs.

I was hoping it is a known bug that Adobe will solve in its new upgrade, whenever a new versioon is planned.

I'm 99.99% sure it's not a known bug. In fact, apart from yourself, nobody seems to have this problem (at least there are no other reports as far as I can tell). Did you install any plugins recently?

No new plug-ins. I have donw 2 re-installs and twice created new catalog.  Unless an Adobe engineer comes over and decodes what I have I am stuck :). Very annoying but I can live with it. Thanks for all your help.

Hi @nabile59528865! Sorry for being late to the conversation. I'm sorry that you're experiencing this behavior with LrC. Could you please share your system info from LrC? From Help > System info > Copy and paste the contents into a text/Word file. You can share it via Google Drive, WeTransfer, or another public file-sharing platform.

In the meantime, you can try these steps:

- Try turning OFF your GPU in Preferences > Performance > Set Use Graphics Processor to "Off".

- Set your Mac's external monitor to its native resolution: Go to Apple Menu > System Settings > Displays, select the external monitor, and hold the Option key while clicking the "Scaled" button to reveal a full list of resolutions, then select the native one (e.g., 3840x2160 for 4K) as Mac often defaults to scaled "looks like" sizes.

Hope this helps!

Noel

A reinstall does not affect plugins as far as I know. They will still be there.

Hi @evikne71,

Thank you for reporting this and providing a clear description of the behavior.

A couple of quick questions to help us narrow this down:

• Did this start happening recently, or has it been present across multiple versions for you?
• Which exact version of Lightroom Classic are you currently using? (Help > System Info)

On my end, I’m able to reproduce the same behavior in the Profile Browser, where large thumbnails initially render too small until switching to a different view mode. I’ll be sharing this with the product team so they can investigate why the thumbnail size state isn’t being retained.

I’ll follow up here once I have an update. Thanks for flagging this.

Best regards,
Anshul Saini

Thank you very much! As mentioned, this has been going on for a long time, probably for several years, across multiple versions of LR. I am now using the latest version, 15.1, together with a brand new 14" 16 GB MacBook Pro M5.

Thank you for confirming the details, @evikne71, and for sharing that this issue has been occurring across multiple versions and machines. That’s very helpful.

Since I can reproduce the same behavior on my end, I’ve already shared this with the product team for investigation. I’ll follow up here as soon as I hear back from the team.

Thanks again for taking the time to report this and confirm the history.

Best regards,

Anshul Saini

Hi, I suddenly started having the same issue with LRC Profile Browser. Whether in List, Grid or Large mode, the profiles are cut off on the right, they don't wrap around, and the entire panel is hiding under the central image panel so the names of the profiles can't be read. I have the latest LRC version 15.1.

Has this issue been fixed? Is Adobe aware of it? You're not the only one!

Hoping for answers, thanks!
