Topic: Saving Images.

I am using Lightroom Classic 12.1 with an Aus PC with Windows 12. In my back up file sometines the thumbnail image shows a picture some times it has the lightroom Logo. (See upload.).  I owuld prefer that it just showed images. how can I do this.

Second quesiton can I save after editing my images rather than be fore editing my pictures.

I assume that you are talking about saving catalogs and/or backups.

The screenshot you posted doesn't show file extensions, so we don't know what kind of files they are.

There are no image thumbnails for catalog files – they are database files.

And the catalog is saved automatically every time you perform an action in Lightroom.

Catalog  backups are created inside folders, and will display with folder icons in the File explorer.

Set the File explorer to show file extensions, then post a new screenshot.

Do not attach the screenshot, use the Insert Photos icon in the toolbar.

Here's how to show file extensions in the File explorer

Hi Okay I may not get all the language right here but I'm learning. When I import files I am creating a backup file.  In the back up file two things are happing as I showed in my original upload. I get a thumb nail image at times (such as AKOA1296) other times I am getting the Lightroom image Lr. such as AKOA1406. If I click on this it goes to Lightroom Version 6 I don't know why the system is selecting to go to the Lr and why it is selecting Lightroom 6. These seems to happen randomly.

One other point that I think is important I am working in Lightroom Classic 12.4 not in Lightroom 6

In Lightroom Classic, there is no such things as "Save" for images. Your work is automatically saved in the catalog file. The image portion of your original files are never modified by LrC, so there is no need to do a save before editing. If you want a copy of your edited photos for use outside or LrC (email, upload, print, etc.), then you Export (not Save).
