Question

Unable to delete video from Lightroom Classic Library

Windows 11 Home Version 23H2
Lightroom Classic 13.1

Nikon .NEF and .MOV Files on flash drive imported into Lightroom catelogue. In reviewing the .MOV files and trying to delete (hitting delete key then - remove from disk) them it states "The file named"DSC_226.MOV" could not be moved to the recycle bin.

If I try to delete it outside lightroom with lightroom still open (delete with windows explorer) then I get "The action can't be completed because the file is open in dynamiclinkmediaserver.exe" close file and try again.

It also isn't removed from the Lightroom Catelogue. Any way to fix this? Would like to clean up my files and discard the "non-keepers"

If you click on another video in your library and play it and then go back to the video you want to delete and delete it. It seems to lock onto the new video you just played and releases old one that was locked and you wanted to delete. Pain - but it works.

It's a bug that Adobe is unlikely to prioritize for a fix. The "dynamiclinkmediaserver.exe" is an Adobe process that manages videos on behalf of LR, and it isn't letting go of videos to allow you to delete them. To work around the bug:

1. Restart your computer.

2. Before starting LR, use Windows File Explorer to delete the offending videos.

3. Start LR.

4. Do the menu command Library > Find All Missing Photos.

5. Delete all the displayed videos (which you had just deleted with File Explorer).

And outside of LrC when LrC and any other Adobe App like PS are closed, Does it still not allow removal?

dynamiclinkmediaserver.exe appears to be associated with Adobe.

Yes .. but then have to consolidate catalog. Used to be able to do this but something changed.
