Unable to export catalog

Hello. I am trying to export a catalog/raw images from my laptop to an external hard drive and then to my desktop. I receive this error:

Lightroom is unable to create a folder for your export in the location you have chosen. Please select a different location.

There is plenty of room on the external hard drive. Any ideas? Thanks!
