Question

Unable to send photos to PS from LrC since the last update

Since the last update from 17 june 2025, I have difficulties sending my photos to PS from LrC. It takes minutes to send a photo to PS, but most of the time it fails and PS does crash from my Windows PC.

@michelv12328957  I see a similar behavior on sending two images as layers from Lightroom to Photoshop after updating to the recent versions. But only the Object Selection tool in Photoshop is activate. If the brush tool (or any other) it worked for me as it should.

Try the following:

Open a blank document in Photoshop an select e.g. the brush tool. Thne close this document. Goto Lightroom and send the appropriate images as layers to Photoshop. What happened?

My System: Intel i7-8700K - 64GB RAM - NVidia Geforce RTX 3060 - Windows 11 Pro 25H2 -- LR-Classic 15 - Photoshop 27 - Nik Collection 8 - PureRAW 6 - Topaz Photo AI

Are you using Super Resolution in Lightroom Classic V 14.4?

If so, there is an acknowledged bug that will lock up PS when a Super Resolution file is sent to PS.

No, I haven't used super resolution. However my base files are huge already
since my camera is producing 46 megapixels raw files of around 45-60 MB
each. So maybe this is already too much when sensing these from LrC to PS.
Since this is an acknowledged bug as you said, I hope this is the case and
Adobe is working on it. Thanks for the info.

Please go to Menu -> Help -> System Info. Copy that information and paste it in a reply here.

I work with 45MB files from my Z 9 and Z 8 all the time without any issues or slowness going from LrC to PS. My system info is in my signature.

Hi @michelv12328957! Welcome to the community!

Could you tell us a bit more about what’s happening? Knowing which versions of Lightroom Classic and Photoshop you're using would be super helpful. Also, let us know if you're seeing any error messages, how you're sending files from Lightroom to Photoshop, and whether things behave differently when opening the image as a smart object or a regular layer. If the app crashes, and you see the Adobe crash report dialog, it’d be great if you could send that report our way.

Thanks so much!
Alek

Hi Alek,

Thank you for getting back to me. Of course I can provide all the
information you need:

- PS version 26.8.0
- LrC version 14.4

In my workflow I'm editing RAW photos from my Nikon D850 camera as much as
I can. If I need to edit a specific photo further I'll send it from LrC to
PS. I do this by right clicking on my photo, then "Edit in" and "Edit in
Photoshop 2025", so as a regular layer. If Photoshop isn't open already,
then Photoshop will open, but then my screen remains mainly gray and I
can't do anything anymore. I'm not getting any error messages, but if I
open the Windows task screen, it says that Photoshop does not respond
anymore. So I don't have a crash report dialog.

Something however the photo does open in Photoshop, but it takes ages, like
1-2 minutes, where it was always seconds before the last update.

2 remarks that might be important for you:
1) it seems that the troubles are mainly there when PS has to deal with
larger files. A RAW file from my camera is about 45MB. However if I have
cropped my photo in LrC and then sent it to PS, it might open, because I
guess the file size is smaller. System wise nothing has changed here in my
configuration, so from seconds to minutes when sending a photo from LrC to
PS after the latest update.
2) for now I have found a workaround that works for the time being: I
export my raw file from LrC to my harddrive. Then I go to the windows
explorer and open this photo from the explorer in PS. This works fine so I
can do my work this way. So, I'm just talking about the connection between
LrC and PS that causes problems.

I hope you can proceed with this info.

Best regards,
Michel

You might be experiencing what I encountered when I first updated to the new release. Try just opening Photoshop by itself. There is a "What's new" screen that I encountered when I tried going from LrC to Photoshop that prevented my image from opening. After I closed that screen everything then seemed to work normally. Your problem may be different, and your experience may be different. But you could give it a try.
