Unable to set GPS info for images from recent map search

Seems like the Map module is more finicky than the others.
I have some photos selected in the filmstrip, that came from a Smart Collection.
I did a search in the GPS address bar, and a yellow box with a dot was placed on the map at the found location. I right click on that box and select "Add GPS coordinates to selected photos" and nothing happens.

(If I drag all the selected images and let them go over the yellow box, that works, but I'm assuming that's not very precise and if later I drag more images to "near" that yellow box I won't get the same exact GPS location, which would not be good.)

I know I have successfully done this before with images that I selected via a Library filter, but this is the first time using images from a Smart Collection.

You neglected to say which version of LrC you are using.

However, I've duplicated with just a selected image and not in a Smart Collection.

  1. In MAP, seach for a location.
  2. Search Result flag appears on the map
  3. Right-click the icon and select 'Add GPS Coordinates to Selected Photos'
  4. Nothing happens. Coordinates do not appear in the right hand panel. GPS icon does not appear on the photo.
  5. Drag the photo to the Search Result Flag and GPS coordinates appear in the right hand panel and GPS icon appears on the photo.

I suspect you have found a bug.

I am unable to add GPS coordinates to either a single photo or multiple selected photos.  I've tried right clicking on the search result icon on the map and using "Add GPS Coordinates to Selected Photos" as well as dragging the photo or photos from the film strip to the location on the map.  Nothing happens.

I also noticed that when I hover my mouse pointer over the search result icon on the map a small black box pops up above the search result icon with a spinning "in process" designation.  I am able to access Google Maps without any trouble, and the Map module's map display and location search are working.

Current LR (12.1), MacOS Monterrey 12.6.

Does the Map module simply not work any more, or is there a step in the process that I'm missing?  Looking at this forum, people seem to have reported problems for several years, but I know this worked at some point in the past.

Thank you,

Don

Updating my own reply - this is strange - it's working now.

I restarted Lightroom and tried adding GPS coordinates - still not working.  Then I tried again and left LR running untouched in the Map module for a few minutes and... voila... the coordinates eventually showed up in the in the image metadata.

I can now add GPS coordinates to one or more images by right clicking or dragging - and it works immediately.

This might have been a transient problem - either locally or in the back-end processes for the map module.

Regards,

Don

"This might have been a transient problem - either locally or in the back-end processes for the map module."

Once you right-click a search-result pin and try to do Add GPS Coordinates To Selected Photos, that appears to put the Map module into a wedged state until you restart LR.

Also,  as mentioned already, when you exit LR from the Map module, the next time you start LR, the Map module will often be flaky.

I should mention that I selected the images in the filmstrip before right-clicking on the yellow box on the map. I didn't mention that above..

I observe the same symptoms -- definitely a bug. Please post a bug report in the official Adobe feedback forum, where Adobe wants all bug reports and feature suggestions:

Be sure to include the first ten lines of the menu command Help > System Info.  Provide all the details, rather than linking back to this thread -- experience shows that Adobe developers tend not to follow the links.
