Hi all,

I want to completely uninstall Lightroom 6 on my laptop, but before I do that I want to make sure everything I need is contained in the catalogue file.

Besides all my pictures, meta info etc, are all my folders also stored in the catalogue file?

Your photos and folders are not IN the catalog. The catalog is a database that contains links to your original photos and folders.  The edits are not applied to the photos on the disk but the edit instructions are stored in the catalog.

NO, your folders are not stored in the catalog. Your folders of images are stored in folders on the hard drive of your computer, or hard drive(s) of your computer if you are using multiple hard drives. The catalog is a database that keeps track of where the images are stored as well as all of the adjustments that are made to those images, but the catalog does NOT contain the images.

Thanks. I am having a problem with Lightroom. When I reset Lightroom with the option holding the shift and alt key, the default catalog isn't empty. It contains some pictures which I don't want.

I always make a backup of my catalog, but Lightroom doesn't make a backup of all my folders? Is there a way to backup  all my folders?

When importing all my pictures I also chose the option "build smart previews". I store all my pictures on an external HDD, but when I unplug my HDD I should be able to develope my pictures in the development module? It doesn't seem to work. That's the reason I want to uninstall LR and hopefully installing it again will solve my problem.

What's the whole idea then behind making smart previews of my pictures?

I want to be able to develope my pictures on my laptop without the external HDD where all my original pictures are stored on.

I just discovered that I will have to copy the whole folder named Lightroom Catalog and not only the file Lightroom Catalog.lrcat

    Problem solved!
